It took me at least a week to start taking the vitamins, then another week to start the pepcid the dr prescribes as a preventative for 2 months. I still forget to take the Tums for calcium, but I'm getting better. The protein has not been a problem. Your weight loss will stop without getting in protein and instead of a zap in the a**, you'll get a kick in the head which will hurt more than usual because you'll be bald from lack of protein and nutrients Ouch! Take care of yourself!

Katie, You have to eat, whether you feel like it or not. Your body will start shutting down and your metabolism will go into starvation mode and you'll quit losing weight. Your skin will look older than you are and you'll have a nice shiney bald head. Eat your protein!!!! I have a hard time with the vitamins, too. I am supposed to take 2 vitamins and 2 calcium per day and often I find I have forgotten one or two. Let's both work on that. Get your a** to your post op appointments! They will do blood work and make sure you are ok. Seriously, my surgery twin, you have to take care of yourself. Mary

I hate the protein too!!!!! The vitamins, I have learned I can take them at night before I go to bed and OMG it is such a relief. Now I don't mind taking them. I just could not handle that in the morning and then belch the vitamin taste all day. It is much better at night. You really have to eat though. Try some creamy mashed potatos or beans with cheese from taco bell. Something that has a little protein in it to get you started. I have to make myself eat alot of times. Even if it is 3 or 4 bites.

My dr doesn't recommend starting the vitamins until week 7 so I haven't taken any yet. I've heard they are hard to get down though.

It's been a real struggle for me to eat, but I've been forcing myself. I've enjoyed vitamins because when I was on my liquid diet it was nice to have something to crunch on. You have to eat, otherwise you could get sick. Here I'm zapping you right now!

I don't really like taking my viatmins - especially in the morning - but I do. You must. I told Dr. Kim I didn't like it and I was having trouble, so he said to space each pill out bey 10 minutes and get them in over time - that helped so very much. I don't take any of the stuff that it in the stores, I take Building Blocks that are especailly for Bariatric Surgery patients. Remember that RNY patients don't absorb the way that regular people with regular stomachs do. And we need a certain type of calcium too. Every morning I take 2 calcium chewables, one multi vitamin chewable, one anti-oxident pill, my pepsid (for another month then I am done) and one of the potassium pills that we are supposed to take forthe first 4 months (I have to crush this and mix it in a little yogurt). Then, 2 hours later I take my Iron chewable as we are not supposed to take Iron within 2 hours of our calcium. At night I take 2 more calcium, one more multi, and one more anit-ox. I know it is a lot, but there was a bariatric patient that they told us about at Celebration Hospital didn't take her vitamins and she has permanent nerve damage. She will be in a wheel chair for the rest of her life, and it was 100% preventalbe. So, take those vitemins and eat that protein!!!
