Hello! I've been lurking around yall board, but I'm scheduled for my Lap RNY July 30th and I am more worried and anxious about getting help with my 2 little ones than I am of the actual surgery. I have a 2 and a half year old (30#) and a 7 month old (16#). I'm wondering how you feel right now with your recovery. Do you feel you could lift a baby and an occasional 30 pounder? I have my mom lined up to be here full time for the first 2 weeks and then other sitters will be available after that. My doctor said I have to go with my gut instinct if I'm doing to much, etc.... I just wanted to get your honest opinions...... How long out of surgery did you experiment with lifting. I had been told by others they were advised not to lift 15 # for up to 6 weeks?!?!?!? WOW!!! thanks in advance for sharing your opinions.... Kim

I had my surgery on the 18th and had a rough couple of weeks. A couple days ago I picked up my 4 year old and started carrying her upstairs to bed. Half way up I realized what I did....oops! It didn't hurt, but I'm sure it wasn't smart. I dumped her on the bed when we got upstairs. I think the biggest problem is the bending/lifting. Be careful on that part. I hope that helps.

I run a home daycare and take care of 4 kids (including my own). All are under 18 months so still need diaper changes. I took off 10 days and I haven't had any issues at all. I was able to hold my son who is around 18 lbs about 5 days after surgery with no problems. My dr did not give me any restrictions, just told me to take it easy and if something hurt to not do it again for awhile. Good luck to you!

My doc said no more than ten pounds for six weeks and no abdominal work out. I've been feeling fine for so long though, so I think it's silly. I officially have to wait another two weeks, but I lifted my neices and nephews. I'm not sure exactly how much they weigh, but I certainly hope the five year old is more than ten pounds!

I had Lap RNY June 11th. I have two little ones as well - one who is 2 1/2 (24#) and one who is 2 (33#). After two weeks my doctor lifted all of my restrictions and said I could pick them up. They didn't totally understand, but it all worked out. Good luck! Kyla

hi Kim. i had surgery on the 18th and started lifting my daughter at about two weeks out. she'll be one on the 20th and she's 28 lbs. man, she's as big as the others 2 year olds! my surgeon said not to lift more than FIVE pounds for SIX weeks. that's rediculous. this is an awful thing to say.. but, if u get a hernia you have a better chance at getting your tummy paid for! lol. i think anyway. i am Not trying to get a hernia.. but nothing hurts and, i gotta take care of my baby! my mom's here to help but i missed cuddling with her so i said to hell with it.

I am lousy at following directions. I put my 5 year old on my hip, use my arms and legs to hoist and deflect the stress to my stomach muscles. I don't baby pain- very much a *walk it off* type. LOL. While I do suggest following docs directions- you know yourself pretty weel (I hope) and these rules are formulated for a broad range of people. I hope this helps... Liv
