I had surgery on June 11th. After a major GI bleed I am thinking that I might have made the right decision. Things are now looking up for me and I have experienced great success with weight loss already. I'm looking forward to getting to know you - and learning through your experiences. Kyla June 11th - 340lbs July 4th - 293 47lbs lost, 128 to go!

Hi newbie Kyla! I'm Cindy, and fairly new myself. I had surgery on June 7th, and am wondering how you lost 47 pounds in less than a month! Did you have the band, or bypass? I am truly impressed by your progress! Are you feeling okay now? I'm not sure how a major GI bleed feels, but it couldn't have been good, so I'm glad things are looking up. And yes, you've experienced GREAT success already. Keep up the good work! Cindy

I'll spare everyone the gory details about the bleed, but here it is in a nutshell. I had Laproscopic Gastric Bypass - and the surgery went smoothly. I came home, and was handling my water and food just fine. I was also walking several miles a day. I didn't drink soda before surgery and also stopped alcohol several weeks before to get those toxins out of my system. 12 days post-op I passed out. Next thing I knew EMS was in my bedroom. I wound up in the emergency room and started passing blood (via my bowels). I lost over 1/3 of my total blood volume. They did a scope, found the bleed and fixed it (much better than having to have a surgical repair). I spent 3 days in ICU then came home very very weak. I have now been at home 10 days from the 2nd hospital stay. I am walking again, I can tolerate food and water again and I am feeling more like myself every day. Even with my complication I'm still glad I did this. Thanks for the welcome! Kyla

Hi.. I am also a June 5th RNY newbie. I am down 42 pounds in 5 weeks. I had a severe port infection from one of the laproscopic holes on top right, but with packing it, I am doing much better now. I would love to have some friends with close surgery dates so I can discuss food, etx. My doc allowed me to chew fat free saltines today as I was in desparate need of a crunch. I am in SA, TX. and there are not any support groups near me. Nanc
