I need your help feeling awful
I had surgery (open RNY) June 18. My pain is better each day but not gone. But I am so tired. I want to sleep and sleep and sleep. I am getting in about 850-1000 calories a day between protien shakes and puree foods. I am drinking water, taking vitamins, and taking walks each evening.
I am worried that I am able to eat to much at one time. I am eating about 1 cup of puree at a sitting which takes 30-50 minutes.
I need to start feeling better and look for a new job. Long story but I don't want to return to the school where I was teaching.
I am just feeling rather blue okay alot blue. help? suggestions?
I can't seem to fugure out how to move on at this point.
Laura
Sorry you're so blue and tired! Don't know what to tell you except to check with your doc. The calories you're taking in are a bit higher than what my doc recommended, but also make sure you're getting most of those calories from protein. I'm supposed to be getting in 90-110 g of protein per day and 64 oz of water, which I've been able to do since 3rd day post op. Since 1 week post-op I've been walking 30 minutes/1-2 miles per day and that really helped me get over the "sleepies". I think I sweated out the last bit of anesthesia because up to that point I was napping at least once each day. I went to work this past Monday and found myself very suddenly tired (not sleepy) at 8 pm both Monday and Tuesday. I hope you're seeing the scale move and that helps you get over the blues! Good luck with your job search - it takes a lot of effort sometimes!
Hi Laura,
I had my surgery June 13th ( 3 weeks and 1 day ago) and today I got up at 9:00 A.M. early for me since I've been sleeping untill 11-11:30 A.M and could sleep more!!! Since my surgery I can not wake up in the A.M. and tire easely during the day, however it is getting better. I don't know if this helped but I had 1c. of protein drink 1 hr. before bed last night. I'm going to try it again tonight. I've been told by other people they also suffered with this but they all say it passes. Have you gone to the lap band forum? I bet if you post there you will get alot of good advise. Hope your feeling better soon!
Terry
Hey Laura! So sorry to hear you are still feeling yucky! I had open RNY on the same day and am doing pretty good, never actually had any incision pain, but I really was walking tons in the hospital as it felt better to walk and get the gas out then to sit or lay down. I was taking 3 naps a day after each walk and now I'm down to one nap at around 2:30.
Know that the blues are more than likely from the hormones that are being released from the fat from your weight loss. It will get better, but if you think it is something
you need to talk to someone about, find a counselor recommended by your surgeons office that is trained in weight loss surgery patients.
I am only able to finish about 3- 3 1/2 oz right now and I've worked up to that, it was less than one when I left the hospital on the 21st. You said it takes you 30-50 minutes to eat, my surgeons program says to not eat past 30 minutes or you could over eat as some of what you've eaten has gone through the pouch already.
Check with your doctors office too, just to make sure there is nothing wrong.
Take care and I hope you feel better soon!
Pam
Thanks for the responses. Although I can't say I feel any better just confirmed that I am eating to much because I take so long with each meal. My DH and I were talking and he said I spend more like 45-65 minutes with each meal. Anyhow, I'll call the Doc tomorrow. The scale was moving down 18 pounds from surgery day till June 30th, seems to be staying the same since then. I did however start my period Monday.
I am going to shorten my meal times. Thanks I'll keep you posted.
