Pizza Craving!
Hi Beth, Cindy here. Yes, I am having crazing certain things. Strangely enough, the first craving was salad with bleu cheese dressing. I'm still battling that one. Funny, if I'd craved salad before surgery, I wouldn't have needed the band! The second one is buffalo chicken. Luckily, I am on soft/solids now, so I'm making an old Weigh****chers recipe I have for buffalo chicken bits that I've always loved one night this weekend. I tried some Szechwan sauce last weekend, and had no problems, and the doctor said I could try the buffalo chicken, as long as it isn't too hot. My recipe isn't too hot, so it should be okay.
I TOTALLY understand the pizza craving. I am a pizza and popcorn addict, and have been since childhood. And while telling ourselves repeatedly that we can't have it doesn't really help much, let me tell you about my experience early last week. I tried part of a cheese quesadilla. Honestly, I thought I would be fine. I WAS WRONG. That little bit of cheese caused me so much pain and discomfort for the next two days that honey, I probably won't even look at cheese for at least six months--a record in my life, trust me. I turned into Zog the Caveman last week: "cheese bad, cantaloupe good" was my credo. My family thought it was pretty funny whenever I grunted that comment out at them.
You know what? A few years ago, during one of my diet stints, I didn't eat pizza for six months. I started dreaming about it! No fair! My subconscious was fighting me!
I wish I had something helpful to share to help you deal with the craving, Roxy, but it's not exactly my strong suit. Right now, I'm using that redirection technique people use with children. If I find myself really lingering over thoughts about a particular food, I try to find something else to occupy my mind. This will be easier when I'm back in school this fall (yeah, back in college at 43!), but right now, with summer vacation going on, I just switch from one book to another, trying to find something that will capture my attention really strongly and redirect my little brain.
Do you have an understanding friend you could call who will help you distract your own attention? Maybe you could spend some time with that person today or tonight. Find a crossword puzzle. Play Trivial Pursuit or Scrabble (or your favorite board game). Just find something that will actually redirect you and not leave you thinking about that pizza.
Good luck, honey. And keep in touch.
