well it dehydrates you- its very acidic in your tummy-causes sleep problems- mood swings- makes you go up real fast then you crash- which is awful for your brain and body- there are lots of good sites about the health risks- just google it- years ago when i was studying herbs they used it as a toxic marker- like if the herb was that toxic use extreme caution- yet we dump it down our pie holes like there is no tomorrow

Hey Katie, My nutrionist and doctor said that 1 drink with caffeine in it daily is not a big deal. Just don't over do it, I like to have my coofee with protein powder in it each morning.

I had lap band and the surgeon said coffee is fine. I think it is one of those things that I should have in moderation. It does stimulate the appetite I read, and have discovered for me.

Hi, This past Thursday I asked my Doc the same question as I miss my A.M. coffee so much. He said that the reason is it can cause gas and acid reflux. He told me I can have 1 cup but if it caused a problem I would have to stop. I still have not tried that cup but will let you know how it goes.

Caffeine also leeches the calcium from the bones. I was told this is the reason to avoid it. After surgery, if you had the RNY, you malabsorb your vitamins and minerals. If you have much caffeine, you run the risk of calcium issues.

My surgeon doesn't say anything about caffeine.. thank goodness! I suppose that here in the UK if you tried to tell people not to drink tea/coffee they'd ignore you anyway. I've been having short non-fat sugar-free vanilla iced lattes in the mornings and they've been wonderful. Makes me feel so 'normal' to continue my usual Starbucks'ing. Elizabeth
