I am so jealous! I am 9 days out and will be on the liquid diet until July 11th! I am going crazy...to the point where I am starting to gag when I put the stuff to my mouth. I want to just have real food. Just out of curiosity...what kinds of foods are you eating? Could you give me an idea of your typical day? That would be very helpful! Thanks! Beth

I am eating fairly normal. I was on a soft diet when I was discharged. I am eating spaghetti and meat sauce, turkey, chicken, potatoes, even about a square inch of cheese pizza. Of course, I am chewing like a wild woman with each bite. I have pureed lightly some vegetables. I just really don't have much of an appetite.

Not yet...hoping for tomorrow evening after first post-op appt (14 days). It will be soft/pureed foods probably for another 14 days. It will be interesting to see what I can do at a restaurant next week with my son, his fiance and her parents. Do you think anyone will believe a 235 lb woman who says she's full after eating only 2 oz of plain broiled fish????

I've been on soft foods since I was discharged and my surgeon doesn't think you should need protein drinks or powders if you follow the 2 oz of protein first, then an oz of veggie or fruit. The sample diet shows 4 oz at a meal, but I can only get in the 3 now. I've been doing really good on energy levels and everything, so he must be onto something. I don't think I'll be trying spaghetti or pizza for quite some time. I'd fear getting filled up on the non-nutritious crust and noodles. I see him again on Thursday for my first post-op appointment, so we'll see if he progresses me to other foods then. Pam

I've been eating normal food... well chewed ofcourse. If I make tacos or anything mexican for my kids..... I save out some of the taco meat, add some grated cheese and a little hot sauce. I've also made the kids spaghetti, so I had the spaghetti sauce with meat and a little grated cheese on top. I haven't really wanted to try pastas, I dont want to fill up on them when I know I dont eat much to begin with. I seem to tolerate beef well, chicken if its thin and not too dry. I've had a thin cut steak and did perfectly ok....... but pork doesn't seem to sit well with me at all. I get a little nauseated after eating any pork... I've tried a little pork sausage patty (a couple of bites), bacon (lean) and a thin cut pork chop. But no....... I have had tilapia with no problem, crab legs and shrimp. Those all seem to work fine for me.

For the one asking me about a normal day of eating........... I wake up and have my protien drink mixed with non fat milk =32 grams protien then I will make like a "budget gourmet" frozen dinner and pick off of it for like the whole day.......... And then for dinner I might have a soup or beans and rice or something. Last night we went to pizza and I had like one potato wedge and a bite of peperonni pizza topping.........(didnt sit super well in my belly) but I didnt get sick or anyhting.......... So I am pretty much convinced that you can have anything (following the basic rules) as long as you chew it well........... Tonight for dinner I put a can of clam chowder in the food processor for a few pulses.......And then tor it with cheese and bacon bits........ Mmmmmmmm.........It was good (even if I can only eat a few bites)

I get dairy on the 9th and then it's only protien meats and dairy until 3 months out then I will be allowed fruits and Vegies and grains. My family thinks I'm strange but I ask to smell thier food lol but it works to kick my craving for what they're eating. Like my husband had watermelon today, oh i would die for some but I just smelt it and i was good. Has anyone else had that? lol anyway...Praying for the 9th to come FAST!! Dairy is my food group lol. Congratulations Ladies and Gentlemen We're all on the losers side!

I had Lap RNY on 6/11/07. I was allowed a normal diet after 13 days. A normal day consists of 4 oz of cottage cheese w/ pineapple in it (Friendship), morning snack Granola bar, Lunch is usually tuna fish or egg salad, afternon snack is cherries (today) and dinner is chilli or chicken salad. As long as it is moist, I can have anything. I have not dumped but the only thing I have had is that I have not chewed very well & have gotten food stuck! OUCH!!! It has happened about 4 times and I think I have learned my lesson. I try to eat slow, but it is a hard habit to break when you have been doing it for so long! So, my "nornal day consists of 775 caloris & 65 grams of protein. I am not doing protein shakes anymore, just because they are NASTY. But I seem to be getting enough in from my food. My Dr. wants me to have anywhere from 60 - 80 grams per day. If you want a cool way to track your nutrients, go to Fitday.com it is a free site that lets you put in what you ate & how much & it tells you everything! Best of Luck to you all Amy Lap RNY 6/11/07 Surg/Now/Goal 254/223/135

I did ask on another board about the watermelon because I was thinking about the 4th on Wednesday. I was told tha****ermelon is very sweet and can upset our new pouches. If you can, try a little bit at home so you know if it will make you sick or not. That sugar will hit your small intestine full force, so be ready. denise
