1 1/2 weeks out and hungry
Shannon,
I am only 2 weeks out, so I'm not much further along than you. My mouth waters at fast food commercials, my family eating dinner, and walking through the grocery store. I even crave foods. However, I always have a full feeling and know that I couldn't eat it if I wanted to. Sometimes your head plays games with you. At 1 1/2 weeks, I really wanted something that was food rather than liquid so I went to Taco Bell and got some pintos and cheese. I ate about 1/3 of it and was absolutely stuffed. That was on my diet for 2 weeks out, so I thought I would chance it. I didn't consider it cheating. Just take tiny bites and make sure everything is chewed (yes I even chew pinto beans) really well. Good luck!

Im glad to see that Im not the only one. Thanks I think I will try Taco Bell even though I have about 4 more days before purees. I think I just need to taste something different. My nut said it was ok but the doc thinks I should do 2 weeks of liquids. Ill take the nut advice since it is her specialty. Ill let ya know if it helps.
Hi
my surgery was 6/18 and yes I would love to chew something even pureed food but I won't cheat because I know my stomach isn't healed and I could really cause problems for myself, I will be on full li****il July 9th. I think in the healing stage you can stretch your pouch, just be careful it's only another week or so.
GOOD LUCK
Susan
i had surgery on the 18th and i feel hungry too. it's hard to tell the difference between being actually hungry and having head hunger. keep sipping and go for walks. i've noticed that after i walk i feel really full.
i was four days shy of being two weeks post op when my nut. cleared me for refried beans. guess it all depends on what hospital you used. i cant wait for purees either.
when are u supposed to be on purees? i dont want to tell you to go ahead and "cheat." but i know how hard it is..
try and focus on why you had the surgery in the first place. treat yourself like an addict and tell yourself you arent going to let food control you anymore.
hang in there.
My open RNY was 6/22 but my surgeon and nut (thankfully they work together out of the same office) allow soft foods to be started about 5 days post op. Due to that, I haven't felt a lot of hunger, but once in a while I get the hunger pangs at night. So strong they hurt! I nibble on a saltine when they hit and it really helps. Each doctor is different though, and I wouldn't suggest cheating post op, it just sets the stage for a harder journey ahead of you. Call your surgeon or nutritionist (or both) and ask. Good luck!
