Hi I had my surgery on 6/18, I stopped taking my diabetes medicine on 6/17, since then my BS were around 95 - 106, now I am on full liq and they go about 120-122, I am just so afraid that when I start eating real food my BS will go up again. I don't want to go back on the medicine. I feel so great being off it Susan

Susan, I have also been off my meds since surgery. I am on full liquids (creamed soups, etc.) so far my BS have stayed in the normal range which is a first in 5 years. Even when I was on insulin I never could get them this good. And the side effects of the meds. I love being off of them as well. I think that as we loose weight and monitor our carb intake our BS should remain relatively normal. Good luck and Congrats on Normal BS!!! Kristina

HI Susan, A week after surgery I was off all diabetic meds. I have been on the soft pureed stage and my BS has never gone above 160 1 hour after a meal. Pre op I waS on insulin, for the first week post op I was on metFormin 500 mg 2x day. It sure does feel good being off the meds! Jen

I've been off my diabetic meds (I was on 2 different pills, no insulin) since 3 days before my surgery. My blood sugars ran 120-130 during those days. On surgery day, my sugars shot up to 160 and the next time they checked it was 216. They gave me 1 insulin shot in the hospital and my sugars have been normal with no medication ever since. I'm on full liquids now with nibbles of saltines, low sugar yogurt, and mashed potatoes. All my sugars have been under 100 since I got home. First time I've seen that in 5 years too! I can't tell you how happy I am Donna

Hi Susan, I've been off diabetes meds since the day before my surgery. If you read the labels, and watch the sugar, you'll be able to stay off meds. Good luck! Cherry

I am 10 weeks out. I got off Metformin and Actos. I am still on insulin but on half as much as I was before surgery. I am a Type II Diabetic and I am still hopeful that some day I might be off it for good. Has anyone gotten off insulin a few months after surgery? Hillary
