Home for a week and hurting??
Hi all,
I haven't posted since I have been home. I have been feeling very tired and find sitting at the computer pretty uncomfortable.
I have a couple questions?
I hade open RNY on 6/18 so I am at day 9 post-op. My incision still hurts quite alot. But what worries me is I can't straighten up. It hurts and I feel like i will simply bust open. My back has begun to hurt more with each passing day. I think the binder is pulling my spine out of alignemt. I spoke to my nurse and she suggested that I try a day or two without the binder. So thats where I am at.
I am feeling like a big baby because I am still feeling so sore and not really up and able to do anything. I tried to cook three pieces of chicken for DH and was wiped out from that .
Suggestions?
Laura
Laura,
Glad to finally hear from you, but so sorry you are so sore and uncomfortable. When do you go back for a check-up? Maybe you should go back a little earlier. Call the doctor again and see if you can go in to make sure everything is ok. If it is, at least this will give you some peace of mind. If it's not, well, that's why you need to go see him to make sure. The only other advice I can give you is that you have to move. You have to get up and walk, walk, walk. Even if you can only handle that for 5 min. at a time, it is so crucial to your recovery. You also have to drink. Get those fluids in however you can. You would be amazed at how horrible you can feel if you begin to dehydrate. Well I am sending you all the positive energy I can muster. Hugs and good luck to you,
Mary
I am having the same problem, quite tired, and can't stand straight up and my husband thinks it's normal, tomorrow i will be 1 week out and I want to walk but am extreamly uncomfortable doing so, just a short distance, i am going to go outside now and try again but I hear ya, don't really have advice for you because I haven't been able to fix my pains yet either. I hope you feel better soon! God Bless, and I will keep you in my prayers.

Hi
you have to walk, walk, walk no matter how much it hurts that is how you get rid of the gas, I was done at Barix in Langhorne and they make you walk 2 hrs after you come back to your room and every 2hrs after that even during the night, at that time it was tough but it helps. I was done on 6/18 also I had lap RNY, I have been driving since last thursday and I am back to work but I walked a lot, my incisions never hurt but I still get a pain on my left side sometimes and when it hurts I walk it off.
Good Luck to you
Thanks friends for the advice. I have been walking some. I move about the house every hour and have been walking outdoors small bits. I do not think I am feeling gas pains it is more a burning sharp pain around the incision. I will keep walking and praying. It's amazing to me that some folks are able to be back at work at this point. Way to GO!! I can't wait to begin to find a more normal rythm to my days.
Mary I have been thinking about you I hope all went well and that you are progressing nice.
Blessings to all
Laura
Hi
I get that burning pain on my left side not on the incision on the inside it feels like there is a fire inside, I didn't have it for 2 days and then last night it came back and now this am it is gone, I hate that pain,
I don't know if it is nerve endings healing or gas but I walked last night and passed a lot of gas and now its better as long as it gets better
GOOD LUCK SUSAN
I had my surgery on the 18th also. I am just now feeling better, but left side is sore also. I felt like a wimp, because some people talk about walking two miles two days after surgery. You will find that each day gets easier. I am up and moving more each day. I haven't cooked fo my DH because the sight of regular food still makes me nauseous. Right now my favorite thing is SF popsicles and blended chicken noodle soup. Hang in there it gets better each day. The first week I wondered if I had done the right thing, but now that I'm feeling better, glad I did and I've already lost 10lbs
Hi, I also had mine on the 18th, but it was lap RNY. I'm also feel pretty crappy, so I can only imagine if my surgery was open. I actually emailed my nurse this a.m. She said to just take it easy and some people take longer than others to recover. She actually recommended that I don't push the walking (which is what I first thought she would say). She wanted me to concentrate on eating, drinking, and resting.
My back hurts too and was actually thinking about going to see my chiropractor and the message therapist. If I can sit in chair and lean forward, perhaps they can do something for me.
What are you taking for pain? I'm on Tylenol every 6 hours. My nurse said to just do that until I turn a corner.
Take care. Keep us posted!
