I don't want to impose on anyone. Going to San Antonio from Austin.

I am really self-sufficient, but I was NOT alert enough to drive from hospital to home (less than 10 miles) after open RNY. The pain meds were only discontinued the morning of my discharge. Once home, I was (am - only 5 days post-op today) fine alone. My trip was manageable by cab, but Austin to SA is a big difference! Many hospitals also require that you be released only to a responsible adult (cab drivers apparently meet that requirement!). Impose! Good luck!

Hi - I had Lap RNY 6 days ago and I still don't feel up to driving. My left side is still pretty sore. In fact, hitting the bumps riding in a car is still pretty painful. I would advise you not to attempt it. Good luck with your surgery!

Please impose on someone. It isn't safe to drive yourself, and most hospitals wouldn't let you anyway. I don't know the distance between those towns, but for what it's worth...I had to make a 3.5 hour round trip driving today (10 days post-op), and my side was killing me. I didn't think driving was a big deal since I'm basically just sitting there. My dad tried to warn me...he was right. Best wishes for your surgery! Jeannie

Oh, I would not drive home. I was still feeling groggy and not myself. Please "impose" on someone. If I were a Texan, I'd drive you myself! Jen
