Hi everyone.. I had LAP-RNY Tuesday morning and my stomach is still killing me. I do have a full bottle of pain medication, but I was trying to make it through a day without taking it (it knocks me completely out) Is this normal? The only incision that hurts is the large one on the side... the other 4 are fine.

Dana, Yes, the pain that you are talking about is completely normal. Is it just the gas pain you are feeling or only the lower left incision pain. The gas pain took me about 4 days to work through but the lower left incision pain didn't stop until about day 8 or 9. I think alot of it was the sutures being tugged on. Remeber that you have sutures right under your skin too in that spot so you do not have your intestines adhere to your skin. Best of Luck & try to walk it off. Amy

I haven't had my surgery yet, but I'd wager that tis' perfectly normal. Do you have any chewable tylenol? That might be an in between, if you don't. I'm glad you're feeling as well as you are, and hope it gets even better REALLY soon!

Dana, My incision pain was the least of my worries. My stomach gave me heck for the first 5 days. It still doesn't wan****er and when I drink water pain radiates up to my chest and shoulder, no matter how small the sip. This doesn't happen with protein drinks or other liquids. If you need the medication, take it. If you are really concerned, don't hesitate to call your surgeon. Good luck. Mary

I am a little over 2 weeks out and my really bad stomach pain was over in about 10 days. Don't get me wrong, I still have some mild pain where the largest incision is, but I was off my pain meds after 10 days. I had a bad time with the liquid pain meds. Made me woozy and made me dry heave my first night home. Also knocked me out. My Dr switched me to Darvaset and it was so much better. No neasea (I just can't spell that word) and it didn't put me to sleep. I really have not napped at all since the 3rd day. I would ask my Dr if it would be possible to switch to a different pain med that wouldn't knock you out. If not, I would still take my pain meds and be knocked out. For me, I would not live with the pain. There is no need for that. Once I had the Darvaset, I took one pill every 4 hours reguardless of if I felt terrible pain, until the script ran out. You are already going through so much without being in unnessicary pain.

I am finishing my second day post op. I am home and on liquid tylenol with codiene and it is making me tired but it controls the pain. The gas pain is the worse pain but it comes and goes and I am able to tolerate suger free jello and chicken broth as well as water. I called the doctor to make a follow-up appt and asked about the stomach pain and the gas-I was told it was normal. The pain comes from the site of the port and not the other puncture wounds so that makes sense that my sister, who had bypass did not feel the same pain I am feeling. As I talk with people and read, it seems that this is perfectly normal. Good luck to all!
