June 4 surgery...short of breath

I had surgery a week ago and recovery is going great. I have had very little discomfort since being home, have tolerated the shakes just fine, and had my drain removed with no problem today. I just got back from a short (very short) walk with my husband. We cut the walk short because I was very short of breath. Has anyone else had an issue with being short of breath with minimal exercise? I'm not sure if this is just a residual result from surgery or if there is something going on that I should worry about. Thanks - Melinda

No shortness of breath for me. The drain site is finally healing and I am able to cover it with a large band aid. I have had on and off pain,,mostly when trying to get up from bed,, My exercise is just walking around the house. I am able to do a few dishes but mainly I am just resting. Any suggestions for getting out of bed? Jen

Hi Melinda, I have had shortness of breath on and off too. I was told that it is fairly normal, due to the anesthesia, etc... and not to worry unless it was happening while resting or became really bad, and that it should clear up in a week or two. If you're really concerned though, I wouldn't hesitate to put in a call to your doctor....after all, thats what they're getting paid for! Kath S.
