Teeth/Tongue issues???

So I'm on day 6 of my pre-op diet..... and my teeth look wierd. They almost look like they are becoming translucent. I had pretty good teeth before. I mean, decent white, not bleached or anything. My tongue is weird, too. I have to scrape off goo! And my gums started bleeding when I brushed my teeth last night. I was just at the dentist a month ago and he said I'm starting to get gum disease on one part and he told me to floss a lot, which I've been doing. I'm wondering if my diet is making it worse. Anyone else experiencing anything like this??? Thanks for the posts!

I'm on Day 3 and have noticed the tongue/gum thing. Not sure what's going on. My idea on the gums is that we are not eating solid food, so our gums are not getting the daily pressure of food put on them. As for my tongue, most of the drinks I am using seem to have a bit of that after taste, some almost slimy feel to them. I have just been spending more time in the BR brushing/flossing. As for your teeth, are you getting any calcium in?

Hey Wendy....you should probably call your doctors office to check with them, it could be you aren't getting enough calcium or something. Perhaps also checking on the main board might help as there are a LOT of people that have gone through it already and you would probably get a response pretty quick. Let us know what you find out. I don't have to do a LD, so I can't help unfortunately. Pam

I had this same issue plus my teeth felt like I had grit on the back of them. I definitely think it's the lack of chewing. I also read a little bit about ketosis, and some of the articles I read indicated that it could leave a film on your tongue. I figured if I was burning the glucose in my body then it was ok by me. It went away right before my surgery so that was a good thing. I searched the main message boards but didn't see anything about it. I started using mouthwash and that seemed to help the ick on my tongue and the bad taste in my mouth. Good luck on your upcoming surgery!!

Hi Wendy, In the past I have tried juicer diets and the same thing has happened with my tongue. The books I read on it said that the tongue is a good indicator of other internal organs and it just shows that you are eliminating toxins and doing what you should do for reducing the size of your liver. I just brushed my tongue a whole lot. It should get better after surgery but not for awhile. We probably all have a lot of toxins to eliminate especially because lots of them like to accumulate in fatty tissues! Keep up the good work and best of luck! Alison
