getting drunk???

My surgery date is next Thursday the 14th.................and I have to start a liquid diet on Tuesday. This weekend I am going to be going to a custom truck show here in town..........its kinda like a giant tailgating party for two nights. It gets pretty wild and we normally get pretty DRUNK. All my girlfriends want me to drink with them for like "my last drunkfest" before the surgery........ My surgeon never said anything about not drinking the week before the surgery...........Do you think it would be ok?? has anyone elses doctor told them to lay off the booze right before surgery?

here is my two cents: the point of the liquid diet is to shrink your liver so the surgeon can move around it while rerouting your insides. personally, i think drinking might affect it since it is the liver. i know it sucks to be the designated driver but people DO drink after wls. they just have to be careful. so this wont be your last chance ever to get drunk. just my opinion. have fun. and good luck with your surgery!! judij

My surgeon requires no gum, pain killers(Aleve,Motrin etc..) or alcohol. If its beer....... all those hops and barely turning to sugar I wouldn't risk it, besides this is a chance of a lifetime for you and if they are good friends they will understand the health risk. Say it with me Crystal Light is my friend..ha ha

Yes. My doctor said no alcohol for three weeks before surgery. I'm listening, too. The worst is that there's a potluck at my house next Saturday. I start my liquid diet on Tuesday.

LOL..That's okay, that's just practice for the 4th of July...I'm on day 3 of Liquid diet and feel good..

My friends threw me a party two days before my liquid diet. They had EVERYTHING there. For some reason, I just didn't want to do it. (Which was crazy, because I thought I'd be drunk and rolling around in a pool of ice cream and cool whip!!) I did drink ONE glass of wine and had two pieces of my favorite desserts....that's it! Go with your gut...but remember that this small sacrifice to start your new life..... good luck and let us know how you did!
