I cheated...

I was so dizzy this morning (and driving my kids to school and daycare was not helping...) I just needed something. I stopped at the grocery store and bought Healthy Choice turkey slices. I ate a few pieces in the car on the way home! It was 60 calories, 9 g protein, 1.5 g fat - and that's for a whole serving...and I didn't even have that! I just felt sooo bad. I know this is from not drinking the crappy Optifast shakes. I can't get them down. So I've pretty much had nothing for three days except broth and sugar free decaf tea. I've lost four lbs...hopefully from my liver! (ha) I have to joke. Why do some people get to eat and others get stuck with this super strict liquid diet?!??! I would be fine if I could just have another serving of turkey.....I think I might call and beg my nurse.

Thank you for sharing this. I just put a call in to my doctor's office to see if they will approve other protein supplements, or it has to be the optifast! Hang in there. Have you tried flavoring your protein with sugar free syrups or making shakes with ice? In the past, when I did only shakes that were nasty for several months, I found that it tasted better mixed with ice in the blender, especially if I added some splenda and flavor!

hi I think the purpose of the LIQUID diet is simply calorie restriction to lose some weight quickly. I am not sure but that is my belief. The dr said when you lose weight quick like that the weight is from around your organs and you liver I believe. But anyways, I was on the 2 wk liquid too. I was hungry and I did eat BUT i would do like 3 slimfast and eat a bag of cashews (160 calories and a diet dr pepper). I was suppose to do 4 slimfast a day. They were 220 calories a can. It helped me to focus more on the liquid and not cheating so bad to have a little something that was equivalant to the calories in the slimfast. So I would have like cucumbers grapes tomatoes and stuff like that so I could get a little food in too. I lost 14 lbs pre op due to the slimfast but I cheated too. Dont be discouraged if you feel the need to cheat just try to choose a healhty food choice and dont let the calories exceed the shake your suppose to be drinking... Just remember this is the last hard diet you will have to do and the weight you lose from this diet you will not gain back. Dont beat yourself up though. We are all human and we make mistakes. This was just my experience and im not telling you its ok. The best directions are from your dr. But this worked for me. Have a good night ((((HUGS))))) ~~carol~~

OMG, thank you, Carrol. I think part of this was that I wasn't drinking the Optifast or substituting it. I just drank a SlimFast, which next to my 60 calories of turkey this a.m. and some broth, is it for the day. I just can't do the Optifast. I think I"m going to just try to go with SlimFast and maybe I'll feel better. The headaches and dizziness are just too much to handle. Thanks for the encouragement. I'm thinking my doc must make it so strict that you'll feel guilty eating a piece of turkey...don't know. Thank you again, you don't realize how much it helped me to hear from someone about this. I start my liquid diet on the 11th. I am soo nervous. I think you are doing a great job keep trying to do what is best for you. I know I have tried alot of protein shakes in the past and the only thing that helps them go down for me is to drink through a straw. I dont know why but I always add ice and the straw and for some reason it makes it more tolerable... maybe I think of it as a shake.. lol Well Good Luck! I'll be praying for your strength!

It depends on your BMI if you can go full liquids or not according to my surgeons nurse. Why? Read Carol's post, she is so right.. Thanks Carol

Don't beat yourself up about it. I'm on day 5 of my liquid diet and I have not cheated so far, but last night was the hardest day ever. I had a hard time with my slim fast shakes. I didn't want to drink it at all. I forced myself to do it. Keep pushing and we will get through this.

This is such a hard thing to do. I agree. This is day 9 for me. I don't have the optifast shakes so I can't speak to that. I have the shakes from bettermd.com and they are absolutely disgusting. I've been choking them down. Around day 3 I called the nutritionist and she said to just supplement with chicken broth, sf popsicles, sf jello, and other approved liquids off the list she had given me. You can do it, Wendy. Call your nutritionist and see what you can do to make things easier on yourself. Don't make the decision by yourself, that's what she/he is there for. I believe in you! You will get headaches for the first few days and it is imperitive that you get your protein in. Good luck to you!! Be strong!!

Thanks to all! I feel sooo much better today. The headaches have gone. Yeah! I switched to SlimFast which was the best decision. I think I should have started with that...what are these people thinking giving us Optifast?!?!? I can do it now!!!!! THANK YOU ALL!!!
