Can I chew gum on my 2 pre-op diet?

why do you have to be on such a LONG liquid diet?? I would die!! LOL With my surgeon, I only have to be on a liquid diet 2 days before.......and people having the band only have to do it the day before. I think it would be fine if you chewed gum............cause spit is clear right? LOL Just call them if you worried....... goodluck on your liquid diet katie

I keep asking the same question. The reason is to help strink the liver before the surgery. That's what they say. It's driiving me nuts on day 2. It's not so bad.

I guess chewing gum before surgery wouldn't be bad, but chewing after could cause problems if you were to swallow it. It could block the stoma. At least that is what I was told by my surgeon. That is why I haven't even bothered to start that habit. I too am on a long liquid diet. I am on day 11 of 12 of just slimfast and boost, then the day before Surgery I can switch to clear liquids. It has been very long and I have had terrible cravings for salt (it is my PMS time) and yes, I will be on my monthly when I go to surgery Good luck with everything and God Bless! Kim

Ok, I am on day 8 of my liquid diet and trust me on this one - it gets easier. I have hardly any appetite at all right now. My surgery is Friday and I can't wait!!

I was told not to chew gum. Gum boosts your digestive acids in your stomach.

I was told by the pre op nutrionist I couldn't chew gum because it causes air.... dont' ask just what they told me LOL
