what is everyone doing to prepare?
Hi everyone!! Hope you enjoyed the weekend. Today I walked on the treadmill for 30 min and took my kids to the aquarium walked and drank h2o all day. Has anyone found it diffucult to not drink fluids with meals? Just trying to get into a routine for after surgery, been taking vitamins with no problem. So lets hear from all the NY'S
It sounds like you are on the right track.
I have been trying to not drink with meals, have reduced to almost no sugar, and I have been trying different protein drinks. I have been on the board reading, praying and increasing physical activitiy (longer walks each day).
What Kind of protien drinks has everyone tried? I have only tried actual drinks. I haven't tried any powders. Any Suggestions.
Hi Tracy!
I was put on a six week Atkins diet to lose the weight I gained when I quit smoking. He wanted me to lost 15-20 lbs. The Atkins diet is high protein, low carbs so, it's kind of preparing me to eat more protein as well. I increased my water intake to 120 oz a day, walk at least once a day and don't drink a half hour before or after my meals. I take very small bites, and chew, chew, chew. Other than that, I have only looked at the different protein powders and such in the stores. I haven't had sweets or chips, etc since May 3rd. I had a spoon of baked beans at the cabin yesterday and that was the first sweet thing I had tasted....mmmm were they good!
First day of the Atkins diet was May 4th. This morning, I have lost 18.5 lbs.
WOOOOOOOOOOO WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am on the 2nd week of my two week pre-op protien shake diet. I like the Isopure powder - chocolate and I have a carnation instant breakfast sugar free in the morning. I am having a very difficult time being on the shakes and stopping soda. I find that when I am not "eating" I want soda more. I also read someone say that the TR Complete protien shake from GNC was very good, but I haven't tried it yet. I am getting very nervous about the surgery and woke up several times last night with anxiety. I am not afraid of the actual surgery by of the life change.
I'm on my second week of my pre-op diet and have lost 13.8 pounds so far. My husband is also doing a similar diet along side me. We bought, and are using, an elliptical and a Bowflex. My great room looks like a gym! I have been trying various protein drinks, and haven't bought supplies of anything yet--we'll see what my "new" tastebuds have to say after surgery.
I have also purchased baby spoons, and the smallest plastic containers I can find. I already had the small ramekin type Corning dishes. I've got lists and lists of stuff, and a ton of bookmarks
I don't normally drink during meals anyway, so that is not going to be a problem. Eating tiny bites and chew, chew, chew is going to be harder, but I am practicing.
Good luck to everyone, I'm having my surgery June 4.
I also invested in little forks and spoons. I didn't really like the look of the baby spoons so I purchased ****tail forks and demitasse spoons. They are little, and it takes quite a while to eat my SF pudding when I use one. I guess that's a good thing. I'm currently on my liquid diet. I've been trying to take smaller bites (but since I'm on a liquid diet there isn't that much to chew), not drink when I eat (this is still hard for me), and up my activity. I've cleaning up around the house as well. At least the place looks decent!!
I'm trying to follow my diet - the surgeon didn't give a specific one. I've fallen off the wagon a few times... ugh! I've been upping my water intake and have broken my diet soda habit.
I've always been a big vitamin person - so nothing new there. I do have my husband looking at protein counts in everything! It's like our new game when we're out shopping.
I'm also very nervous about the actual surgery - but looking forward to the after bit. I'm practically convinced that I'm going to die. Not good!

I have pretty much elimated sugar from my diet... anything that has over 5 grams I won't eat. Gave up diet cokes and did have one out the other week and omg, it's was as sickening sweet to me as regular so I won't miss them. Since mid February, the only fried item I've had was a couple of pieces of onion blossoms from Chili's last week. Later that night I felt so sick to my stomach. I swear my stomach was not used to the greasey fried stuff and was protesting!
I try not to drink with meals and have cut it back drastically but still sometimes need some water.
One thing I've been doing is cleaning my house! I'm getting on my own nerves having to get everything done that I've planned on doing for the last year! lol Anyone else going into surgery with a perfectly clean house?
Take care,
Cindy
