Hello, I will be having Lap Band surgery on June 13th and would like to get some info on the liquid diet. I have to stay on it for 2 weeks and would like some people to share.

Did they tell you what to do? Mine is 4 Optifast shakes a day plus any no calorie/no sugar drinks (not carbonated), plus s/f n/c Jello. Not exciting. I'm going to pad lock the fridge!! I start on the 4th...good luck!

I am currently on day 2 of my 10-day liquid diet. My surgeon's office gave us suggestions of what was acceptable to eat during this time, and the bariatric program at the hospital provided a few more ideas. I am basically in the full liquid portion of my post-op diet plan so I am eating hot cereals that are smooth, drinking my protein supplement, cream soups, sf applesauce, sf jello, sf pudding, and sf popscicles. Basically, anything low-fat/low-cal that you can suck through a straw is fair game. Beginning at 2 PM the day before surgery, I go on clear liquids only. I will have to stay far away from the kitchen. Best of luck with your surgery!!

I'm on day two of my liquid diet. The docs office gave a list of acceptable protein drinks and each one allows different quantities. For example, I can have 5 Herbalife shakes at 200 calories each (made with one T protein powder and 2 scoops flavor and a cup of skim milk). Or I'm allowed 6 carnation instant breakfast drinks. There are other options there as well, though I can't recall off the top of my head. I'm doing pretty well with the carnation drinks. I like them better than the Herbalife because I don't have to make them and it is real easy to grab and take with you anywhere. In addition to that I'm allowed 30 calories worth of diet popsicles and sugar free jello. And two cups of veggies a day but the nutritionist said it's not so terrible to go over a bit, which I did yesterday. Good luck with your surgery! I'm thankfully finding that it's not quite as bad as it sounds (though I'm not sure what your surgeon requires).

Hi Tremella, I am on day 10 of my liquid diet. I am not gonna lie, it sucks! LOL! I miss the taste of MEAT! Here is the diet my doctor gave me: The protein shakes are either Pure Protein (you can get these at most health food stores. I get mine at Chamberlins here in Orlando) in a can - the banana one is my favorite - or Unjury protein powder. I got these at my Dr's office, but you can also order them from unjury.com. Morning: 1 protein drink & 1 Yoplait Light Yogurt (or one 8 oz glass of skim or 1% milk) Mid Morning: 1 protein drink and 1 fiber drink (The fiber drink is any non-carbonated lo calorie liquid like water or crystal lite with 5 grams of fiber added to it. Benifiber is the best one - it does not thicken or taste) Lunch: 1 protein drink & 1 fiber drink Mid Afternoon: 1 protein drink and 1 cup of crunchy raw veggies (I like celery with lowery's seasoning salt - everything else is so dang sweet that I look forward to the salt) Dinner: 1 protein drink & 1 fiber drink Evening: 1 protein drink & 1 yogurt or milk It stinks, but it is worth it because it shrinks the liver so the lap surgery is easier. My biggest fear is having to be cut open and have that scar. Good Luck! It is OK once you get past the first few days, and it isn't forever, just a few weeks!

Thanks for being so honest about the diet. This helps me to know what to expect.

Hi, I am on day 5 of 12 of nothing but slimfast high protien and/or boost glucose control and all the s/f drinks. I have given up coffee and my diet soda (simply because I can't have them after). That is it for me for a day! Good luck and God Bless
