Pre op diet
How many calories can you have? When is your surgery? I am still cooking for my family. Believe it or not, the smells kind of help, though, I really would like to eat it but I just leave the kitchen when they are eating. I so look forward to the other side...when the surgery is over and I learn to eat "normal" again.
My docs didn't give us a calorie limit for the pre-op diet. They ask us to limit certain things, i.e. dairy is limited to 3 servings per day, they wanted us to limit the Atkins shakes to two per day, regular jello and popscicles are limited to two a day, and there's another one that I can't remember right now.
The support group leader at my doc's office is a successful "loser", and she is also the surgery scheduler. The last time I was in the surgeon's office, she told me that to try to stick to the diet the best that I could but if I had to eat something to make sure it was low-fat. I think the first two days were the hardest, and it seems to be a little easier today. I thank the heavens for oatmeal and yogurt because they seem to satisfy me more than other things.
I look forward to the other side as well and reaching the point where you can have "normal" meals again. I purchased a WLS cookbook from B&N a week or so ago and all of the recipes in that book are supposed to taste just as good pureed as they do whole. I'm anxious to reach that stage so I can try it out. It's funny you mention smells because my mom has this Hershey's candle that she's been burning for the last two weeks and it definitely smells like a Hershey's kiss. Now, I love chocolate, but the smell of that thing runs me out of the kitchen. For some reason, I don't really like the smell of it. I should probably have her find more so I don't crave my M&M's.
I had so talked myself out of food before I started my diet that I didn't have too many "must have's". What is the name of the cook book? It sounds like it may be a winner. Yeah the pureed part, I am not really looking forward to so I guess it had better taste good Yeah the hardest part on this is the restricted calories for me...I sort of feel drained all the time. I know it will go away eventually....I drink so much that my tongue is tired of all the sweet stuff from the shakes and s/f drinks, I actually had a pinch of salt just to break it up....and PMS Salt was always a big thing for me from salty chips to a well salted margarita. Candy is a definate turn off for me now too from all the sweet stuff.
