Pre op diet
Hello everyone. I have started my preop diet today....1000 cal, 5 slim fast high protien shakes a day for the next two weeks. I am struggling a bit....I feel very hungry and very tired. I can have all the calorie free drinks that I want...but it doesn't fill me up. I look forward to having my bypass and not feeling these horrible hunger pains. I also look forward to the day I feel full. Anyone else on a pre op diet?
They discourage chewing gum, especially after surgery, because swallowing it could block the opening. So I am just drinking and drinking and drinking. Believe it or not, I am still cooking for my family. The smells of the food are so good. But I have my resolve for right now. I want to have this surgery be the easiest it can be. God Bless and I too want to get-r-done! I am ready to get on with a new me and not be hungry anymore!
I start it on the 4th. I'm scared to death. I only get to do 4 Optifast shakes and no calorie drinks. I've broken my caffienne habit, but not the food habit! I refuse to grocery shop and seriously think I will need to padlock the refrigs. My husband and kids will just have to eat out.
Do you have any tips/tricks? I think I'll need a locked padded cell.

Hi I start my preop diet on the 1st of June till the 13 the date of surgery. I on a 1050 cal. protein shakes and a small meal at dinner 2 oz meat and veggies with a bread. Like you all it not the daily diet it's the out come after the 13June surgery that life start all over for the second time. With all new goals are that we must set our sight on each morning when our feet [hit the deck] and we move forward. Good Luck to all and to all a good surgery
You're better than me. I've got 4 Optifast shakes a day (which I've read are quite nasty) and only sugar free/no calorie drinks (except carbonated, of course). The only food (if you can call it that) is sugar free/no cal Jello. I start mine on the 4th. Let me know how it goes for you. I think I'm going to lock myself away for 2 weeks! Plus, we have to then fly to TX for my surgery....no peanuts for me! I hope I don't go into ketosis before the plane ride!
I am in day 2 of my pre-op diet, and it is very hard. My diet is similar to another posters, and not as restrictive as some of the others. My liquid diet is the full-liquid portion of our post-op diet so I can have cream soups, broth, hot, smooth cereals, sf jello, sf pudding, sf popscicles, yogurt, cottage cheese, my protein supplement and all the SF drinks I want. At this point, I mainly miss chewing. I've spent most of this weekend cleaning out the garage and my closet to keep from thinking about food. It's worked a little bit, but the hunger pangs are definitely there especially as nightime approaches. I'm trying to keep myself motivated by reading the profiles of the people in the before and after pictures. I'm not cooking for my family (other than nuking a frozen meal for my mom) because I think I'd probably have to be locked up. It's hard enough not eating!!
