Is it safe to say that I am soooo excited that this is finally all becoming a reality? Yet, now that I have a date...it seems like fear of the unknown is creaping in on me. So many emotions right now. I have never had any kind of surgery before, so I am a bit nervous, but I look forward to this journey and the new lease on life that is about to begin. Would love to meet and make new friends for support.

Leslie, I am also scheduled for 6/25. I'm excited/a little scared/but mostly wondering what the rest of my life wil be like. I agree, the fear of the unknown is really what is upsetting me. If we could fast forward to 60 days out from surgery, I'm sure we'll be fine - but it's getting there that is scaring me. Good luck to you! Eileen

Eileen~ Welcome to the 6/25/07 club...if we can call it that. Exactly one month from tomorrow. Too exciting. Have you started any of your pre-op testing? I think I am all tested out....blood tests, ekg, esophagram and sleep apnia. I did all of that last week. Haven't heard back on anything yet. I'm hoping that no news is good news. Good luck to you too! Leslie

Hi Leslie. My date is 6/7/07--14 days to go! I understand that fear of the unknown feeling. I had a laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis about six years ago, and a carpal tunnel release three years ago, so I'm lucky in that I know a little about what to expect. Dr. Machado has me scheduled for the first procedure in the morning in the hospital OR, which is cool, because I'll wake up, go to the hospital, and not have to wait long. I was lucky both times before because I came through anesthesia great, and my doctors were really proactive about pain management. Sandy (Dr. M's nurse practitioner) has already given me the prescription for post-op pain meds (liquid vicodin), so I'm set up there. Ooh, I'm getting long-winded, and this is my first post in the group! Sorry! Tell you what. Let me know what kind of questions you have, or just share specific concerns (yeah, even the ones that sound crazy), and we can chat. I'm happy to have someone to talk with too--someone in my situation especially.

Hi Cindy~ Funny that this is your first post. It is mine as well. I'm pretty new to this site and think it's just wonderful to be able to have all of this available support. Congrats on only waiting 14 more days. This will be your new birthday. Like you, I am scheduled first thing on a Monday morning at 8:00am. I am so glad that I don't have to wait part of a day and get myself all psyched out. Liquid vicodin...interesting. I will have to keep that in mind for a request. Hehehe... Did your doctor want you to start dieting before surgery? Mine didn't really request that I do, but it seems like so many people are starting a few weeks before surgery. I do want to start walking right away, to get myself used to some form of exercise. It will also help in recovery. Talk to ya later. Leslie

Hey Leslie, I'm with you. Waiting all day would be harder, so I too am very relieved to be going in first thing. No, my doctor doesn't have me dieting early. She just said to do a soft food diet the day before. Since I was up 3 lbs since my initial visit, Sandy, the NP, said to try to get that off before surgery, and that a good way to do that is to cut everything white out of my food. I said I'd give that a try, and I will. I just won't cut milk. She didn't say milk. She was more talking about rice, potatoes, bread, etc. I'm already trying to walk every day, because Dr. M. said after surgery they want you walking every day. I started walking and using the WOMAN Challenge as an incentive. It started on Mother's Day, and is an acronym for Women and girls Out Moving Across the Nation. It's online and is put out by the Office on Women's Health, U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services. It's just a personal incentive thing, where you set goals each week and try to exercise every day for eight weeks. Making your goals moves you along a route across part of the US. Some friends and I started a team, called Racing to Victory! and it's just a way to feel like we're exercising together. If you are interested in helping yourself with motivation, take a look at the website. It's at http://www.womenshealth.gov/woman/register.cfm. Hey, I've got to get going to bed. Gotta work tomorrow (but then I'm on vacation and only have to go back to work for one day before my surgery on the 7th--which is good, because my attention span is pretty much gone now!). Talk to you later. Take care of yourself! :juggle:

Hey Karin~ Welcome to our 6/25/07 date. It is truly hard to believe that this is all finally happening. We have less then a month now. I am glad that I am getting this done in the summertime because I am so much more active. It will help things move along a little better. Keep me posted on your progress and congratulations on your awesome news. Leslie

10 more days until liquid diet!!!!! lol what are You doing now? eat like crazy, or try to lose a little weight before surgery? I kind of do both, lol. not eating like crazy, but beeing totally aware that THIS might be my last pizza, or piece of chocolate.. or whatever... How are You handling work? Are You telling people there, or not? so far I only told my supervisor (due to all the dr. apptmts. I had, she was worried I am seriously ill, lol) and my Mom. Thats all the people who know.. except of course my husband and my kids. I am soo looking forward hearing back from You.. and I am very glad to have found somebody in the same boat as me! take good care, Karin
