June 6 anyone?

OK - I am just going to 'fess up - you won't BELIEVE what I am doing before June 6th! You see, I was SUPPOSE to have my RNY surgery in March (right before Spring Break - I am a school teacher). BUT... my psych eval did not get to Tricare in time and my surgery was postponed. I even was at the hospital when I had to leave - the full approval came the next day! ANYWAY, my little "secret" is that I am going on a Carnival CRUISE this Saturday for 5 days! I know --- all that food! Well, I AM going to try to be good. It's NOT that I am not taking this surgery seriously, but I have 2 daughters that graduated from college this year and this was how we had decided to celebrate a long time ago! My sister, Mom and another daughter are also going. It just seems so "bad" to go on a cruise right before bypass surgery. However, I AM going to try to hit the gym. I really don't know why my Dr. doesn't require the liquid diet. I was "lucky" that I got approved really fast BUT in reality it was because I have so many health problems. I hope we can continue to talk after surgery. I can't wait to get healthy but I know it is not going to be super easy!--- LYNN

Lynn, I think it is GREAT that you are going on a cruise! It is much better to do it right before surgery than after. Having fun with your girls will keep your mind off the surgery and relax you. Have fun!! Lisa

Thanks! We are all so excited to see the Cayman Islands. My daughters and my sister want to go snorkeling and maybe I could IF I wear some type of coulotte shorts over my bathing suit. They say you just have to float to snorkel and I REALLY FLOAT!! Anyway, I will let you all know how it goes. By the way, when you say you have to go on a liquid diet before surgery, what do you drink? ----LYNN K

Hi, Lisa! No, I don't have to do a liquid diet. Dr. Alvarez's patient coordinator advised to do a low carb/high protein diet. I am so nervous about this, I don't have much of an appetite anyway. That darned lap-band worries me - I haven't had any problems with it, but the "what if" list is getting longer. I just don't want an extended OR time due to something unforeseen. I am hoping the excitement soon overrides the nerves! AnnieZ

Ladies - I am not too scared about the surgery as much as I am AFTER the surgery. Have any of you bought any special protein products? I did order some bariatric protein pudding last week. I wanted to order some of that unjury chicken broth but it said they were out of it at this time on the web site. Do you all have to be on clear liquids for two weeks post-op?

I'm a June 6th-er as well. I hope everything goes well for us and wish everyone no complications and speedy recoveries!! I am currently on my pre-op liquid diet. It is not fun, but I'm thinking of it as mental boot camp. At least, I'm not terribly grouchy (yet)! Anyhoo, good luck to everyone and keep in touch.

Amanda, I see the dietician in an hour-I have to do a one week liquid diet. I am so excited and nervous about the sut=rgery, I really don't even feel like eating. I may change my attitude a few days into my liquids only stage. Best of luck, Lisa
