Hi Holly I am really kind of early on my road towards surgery. I am hoping to be approved for the Lapband. I'm only on step #3, however. I've basically only filled out my paperwork and mailed it back. I know my insurance covers it for certain cir****tances that I do think I fall into. As for starting in advance...aren't we supposed to? I mean, I've just been trying to find out as much information as I can, and I thought we are expected to lose a little weight and start on the eating about 1-2 months before the surgery, no? Tell ya what I did: when I was at the store I checked out the tiniest little babyfood jars! (LOL) I gather that after liquids and the initial healing, we're only supposed to be able to eat 1/4 c. of pureed food, right? I was trying to imagine only spooning that much pureed food for a meal! Needless to say this was a few days ago and I haven't been successful and eating that little yet. I do think that since we're going to be restricted, we should really try to focus on why we want to eat, slowing down and chewing a lot more than ever before, and finding things to do with ourselves at times when we want to reach for food but aren't actually hungry. Easier said than done, I know!! What have you been told about starting before the surgery or weight loss before? I'd love to know since you are surely farther along than I am. Thanks, Julie

I was just receintly told by another RN who just had the surgery by the same surgeon that I dont have to diet before the surgery. Some surgeons require you to (for a less fatty liver) but thankfully mine does not. I have cut out my starbucks, soda and fastfood so I guess I have kinda started. I joined a gym months ago but havent been yet. I think that will be my next venture. I dont want to go to my pre op appt. and my surgeon says that I cant do it because I dont weigh enough. I am 101 lbs over, and 38.3 BMI, I hardly make it.

Hey Holly, I was told at my docs office that when they file with insurance, they use the weight from your first visit with them. So even if you lose 40 pounds before surgery, the weight you started with is what insurance will go off of. Hope this helps somewhat. Denise

Hello Holly! I'm 7 weeks from my surgery date and have begun getting into the habit of taking my vitamins and calcium. I'm also in the process of weaning myself off soda, and will completely give up coffee in 3 weeks. All of this is at the request of my surgeon and nutritionist. I'm not worrying about dieting before the surgery - but do have to do a 10 day liquid diet just prior to surgery in order to shrink the liver for surgery. Do you know what your surgeon or nutritionist require in terms of making changes before surgery? They might be able to give you better insight on what they think are the important changes to begin before surgery. Best of luck to you!!

My date is on the 21st of june and I'm already on the bandwagon. I've been testing protein, trying to find which one I like.
