Topic: RE: come clean
Yes, I am seeing some of my old evil ways, especially the evening grazing. I do eat carbs, even the really bad ones, but I eat much, much less of them. I too have a hard time getting protein on the go. I am eating a lot of salad, but with lots of feta on it. I am definitely more active now than in the past. So even though I know I am slipping, I also know that I am making the gradual lifestyle changes I need to to be healthy. I do appreciate that people do come clean on this board, I don't feel quite as "evil" know it is a common struggle.
Thanks all.

Topic: RE: How is everybody doing?
Way to go on working with a PT! My weight has been much like yours - up, down, up, up, down. Currently I've been on a downward movement -- mainly b/c I've been really busy and not having time to eat. I don't expect that to continue as I'm getting ready to have 3 weekends out of town with restaurant eating. Or maybe it will be good - I never can seem to eat much out. I guess it's the high fat content or something. But finding some snacks to take is hard (hint hint - my other post on protein!) Our work gym is supposed to open in May so I'm hoping to go back to working out, but that might stall the weight gain.
Hang in there. I think you just have to stay with it. Eat your protein, drink your water, do your exercise, eat your vitamins. It will eventually come off - it just takes time. You are doing so good. And fitday is great. I took a week off from the journaling but have got back on b/c I was afraid if I didn't.
Topic: How is everybody doing?
I know a few of us posted before saying we were having problems with the last 20-30 or so pounds. I started with a personal trainer and after 2 weeks the scale moved 3pounds - woo hoo... that was my total loss for March. I was so happy and hoped that trend would continue... well now Ive had 2 weigh-ins for April and the scale hasnt moved yet!!! The week before last I was in CT for my grandmas funeral so that week was a wash... I was stuck not eating the best and not being able to exercise but have back on track this week. I do weigh daily but only pick one weigh day and my scale keeps going up 1-2lbs and then back to the same weight I started. One day it flashed me a lower number then just backed up again!! I think it likes playing games!!! With the 1 year annerversary approaching fast I am getting anxious to reach my goal... a month ago there was no doubt in my mind I would reach it but now I am not so sure. Ive once again changed my goal.. its gone from 155lbs to 160lbs... now my goal is just to get into the 160s... Im currently 178 (and 179, oh and 180, and for a 1/2 second 177!!!). Ive been using fitday.com (which I didnt previously) and have been working with the trainer and getting my cardio in... it would be very nice to see some results!! Even if the scale didnt move if my inches would I would be estatic!! I am going to a plastic surgery seminar on Monday and have an appointment with a PS on May 10th - I am scared to death he will tell me to lose 20 or 30 more pounds... even if he says I need to be at goal weight I just dont know if my body will go there!!
Anyways, enough of my boo-hooing!! How are the rest of you doing??
Topic: RE: Sugar?
Alice. It does sound like you had a dumping syndrome. I agree with everyone else, you could have gotten the sugar free but had a problem with the Milk or whatever type of sweetner was used. Or, you definatley did get one with sugar. I guess it is hard to know. I am not sure I react to sugar because io have never really tried to eat a whole candy bar or anything with sugar in it more thna 13 grams. So, If I want something sweet, I eat one bite of a candy bar or something small like one hershey kiss or a miniture goodbar. Small little pieces that have less than like 5 grams of sugar. I do not want to risk having a dumping syndrome! I think that scaredness keeps me from trying to much sugar - which is probably a good thing because if I knew I could tolerate it I am afraid I would want it to much. And yes, there are a lot of things I liked before surgery and do not like now (like bread) and there are things that I did not care for before surgery but like now (like Ketchup and crab legs - not together of course).

Karen, a few weeks ago I discovered the PowerCrunch Bars. They are realyl good. Tehy ahve about 13 grams of protein and they are not thick hard bars. It is a wafer bar - exactley like a nutty buddy. They come in all different flavors but I have been eating Peanut Butter Creme and Choclate PEanut Butter (see the peanut butter theme LOL). You should give one a try. You can get them from baratriceating.com or the Vitamin Shoppe (online or at the store if you have one in your area). Good luck finding somethign that works best for you and that is great that you are trying to get back on track.

You very may well have eaten the sugar free chocolate pie... I have found post-op I am more sensitive to sugar-free products (loaded with sugar alcohol typically) then I am to sugar. If you read packages of sugar-free products they usually all say "may cause laxative effect" or something to that effect... soooo keep that in mind!
I find post-op I am open to trying more foods that I wouldnt try pre-op... I have not come across anything I didnt like before that I do like now... there are, however, lots I liked before I do not like now. (i.e. mcdonalds!)
Topic: RE: Sugar?
If the chocolate pie had milk in it, you might have reacted to that and not sugar. Or they could have been switched. I wish I had your problem but I don't have much problem with sugar anymore if I don't over do it. If I eat too much, I get extremely tired and I have "bowel issues". So I can have a little -- but not the bagful like pre-surgery.
Topic: Sugar?
I have read a few of the post where people can eat candy bars. I can not eat any of that it makes me so sick. Last night was a prime example, my mom felt sorry for me, that everybody was eating candy and pie but I couldn't so she made me a sugarfree Fat Free chocolate pie, well I think one of the regular chocolate pies got mixed up and she sent it home with me. I had a piece for a snack but a few minutes later it made an encore appearence. I got all sweaty and sick to my stomach. I not complaining that I can't have that kind of food, because if I could eat it I probly would try. I never like popcorn before but since my surgery I eat it and like it Has any body not liked something and after surgery like it?

I like the carb & sugar control yogurt from dannon... I will cut up 1/2 a granny smith apple and use the yogurt as a dip... works well with other fruit too.
Roasted soy nuts... dont have much of a taste to me but great crunch... they sell flavors too... I usually just get the sea salted ones
Snack mix... I buy at the health food store, they have a zillion types... I go for one lower in carbs and fat... theres one called Mexi-Cali Fire that is good and spiiiicey
Meat and Cheese roll ups - I like turkey and munster, easy snack and 1 or two do it
Natural pnut butter- right off the spoon or on an apple or a few crackers... there is a good one jiffy or skippy or something makes that doesnt seperate so you dont get that oil on the top
South Beach Hi Protein Cereal Bars - the pnut butter is my fav... I keep them in my desk along with the soy nuts
Dried veggie chips - also bought at the health food store... they really dont have much taste but are a good crunch and good way to get veggies in (not good on the protein but still a good snack!!) they sell them here in bins so you can take as much or little as you want
Luna Bars - good protein, not too high in carbs and sugar.. Ill eat 1/2 now and then as a snack the Lemon, Chai Tea and Dulce Du Leche (sp?) are my Favs.. I also like Detour Bars - pnut butter but they make me gassy (TMI right??)
Pepperoni Chips - you can do in microwave or bake in oven, use turkey roni for less fat - you just zap/coo****il crispy... good substitue for crackers or if you want a crunch, you can also do the same with cheese slices (real cheese not cheese food) and make your own "cheese-its" if you search on food.com for lo-carb receipes you can find both on there
Hope this gives you a few ideas!!
