I think everyone is different (..sheesh, if I had a dime for every time we've said that on the boards!) I think it's great if you have been able to avoid the things your Doctor has told you to. I've never had that type of fortitude, which is why I needed the surgery to begin with. My surgeon basically told me that my goal after surgery would be to eat pretty much what I want in small portions.. which is exactly what I do. It is still up to me to limit carbs/sugars and make better choices, which I do struggle with, but I also don't deprive myself of anything and feel great. My body tells me if I've over done it or ate the wrong thing. I eat sandwiches with limited bread choices and I live on salads and raw veggies. So I think it's whatever you feel is right for you. Congrats on your success and determination. I admire that! Blessings, Kim

A while back I posted here about wondering if I was normal with my food choices. I have eaten any bread, sugar, pasta, since before the surgery and I have been eating very high protein low carb. I also haven't eaten salad or any RAW veggies because my nut said that they were hard to digest until 9 months out and so I have avoided them. I see lots of people eating crackers, sandwhiches and even cookies but I haven't even attempted to try any of those things. Well I went to the Surgeon for my 6 months check up (really 7 months but I am off schedule due to a few complications in the begining) and talked to him about my food choices. His exact response was "You are doing exactly what I want you to do." He said he expects me to High protein/low carb from now on. He stated to stay as far away from carbs as possible because the cause you to have cravings and really do you no good. I don't live in fear I just assume they will make me sick so I don't cross the line. I mentioned that some have stated it is very important to have a well balanced diet and I shouldn't be so strict on myself. I told him I think of some foods, (Bread, pasta, sugar and flour of any kind) as alcohol as if I were an alcoholic. I can't have just one. If I do, I fall off the wagon and I don't ever want to cross that line. I am totally happy with my food choices and honestly don't miss those things at all. Dr. Lowe, said Shannon, you have choosen to change your life and be healthy and how you are eating now will keep you healthy for the rest of your life. I felt so much better after talking to him because I have lost -122 lbs and am just about to cross over into onerland!!! So my point is he was addement with me about the fact that I shouldn't try to compare what I am eating or doing to everyone here or my support group and continue on my course. He said being scared of eating certain things wasn't really a bad thing because it helps me stay on task. I guess I just wanted to post because I think I finally stopped wondering if I am normal compared to other WLS people. Thanks for listening, Shannon

Oh, I hope you feel better. I had a cold/allergies that progressed to a sinus infection. I got Amoxicillian and some decogestive pill. They apparently worked and absorbed fine b/c I'm better. I didn't think I could take pills. I took the new Triaminic cold strips last month. They knocked me on my butt but relieved my symptoms.

Tonight I'm fixing stuffed chicken breast. Get some boneless chicken breast and hit with a meat mallet to get it relatively thin. I'm putting in some crumbled bleu cheese and scallions in the middle and then folding the chicken around the rest. Bake 350 for an hour or so til the chicken is done. Pour some butter over the chicken before you put it in the oven and baste every 15 minutes or so to keep it moist. I season the outside with some garlic powder and paprika. Flexible recipe as you can add any filling you like to change it up.

Thanks Daniel and Michi girl, you both have given me different things to try and I will. Seems like I have got stuck on what I eat and dont eat a wide variety. I have got until I want to cheat and go back to my old way of eating. I dont want to do that. I must have a split personality, one wants to be good and the other says I am tired of this get a big milky way and forget it. I want do this however, just think of it from time to time.

Nancy, It has been a terrible time...but we can deal...they are ALIVE and that is all that matters. We lost the trailer (we owned, but had just bought and no insurance) and our cadilac, no insurance - were starting to redo it. Son lost EVERYTHING and he was just starting out. First new furniture purchase, remodeling his home, all his personal things (MP3, cell phone, IPod, ...) as well as clothes, wallet, ID, money, and all the "normal things". His memories are the worst though. He lost all his uncle's stuff: flag that he draped over his casket, war memorials, etc. He also lost his grandmothers (both) memorials: painting one did, pillow quilted from ones blouses, lighthouses, owls, other collectables. These are irreplaceable. But the memories are in his/our hearts. We are trying to keep our family fed, find a place for everyone to sleep, and just keep our lives in some semblance of order... Lots of love to you. Thanks for your concern. Cyndi
