I've waited over 3 years, and now my June 5th date is cancelled

Don't get me wrong, I love that Canada has universal healthcare, but 3-5 years waiting for this surgery is insane. We don't have enough doctors, so my surgery has been cancelled due to a lack of anesthesiologists. I'd already paid for my airfare to the surgery, arranged for the time off from work, planned a family vacation for the tail end of my recovery, and stopped buying clothes for my ever growing mass. Something's got to give, before I have to start wearing slinky stretch clothes in the middle of summer Bottom line, this sucks and I don't like it. I can appeal to our provincial healthcare system to get funding for out of country surgery--a few miles from Disneyland would be nice--but I have to have a specialist complete the appeal paperwork and there are not even any GPs or family physicians in my area taking new patients, who can in turn, refer to the specialist. Aargh Anyways, thank-you all for your indulgence in my mini-rant. I have no idea what my options are yet, but have faith that I will be able to figure something out. Lori

Thank-you for your kind words Dee. I sent a very detailed letter for an out of country surgery appeal to my surgeon, and a week later (May 19) I got a call from his office to reschedule my surgery for June 1. So, I am an the ecstatic roller coaster again. Thanks again for your support. Lori

My daughter was bitten by a pitt bull in Nov. $6700 later we are lucky the surgeon did so well! He bit her eye, scratched her cornia, puncture wounds, tore her tear duct and eye lid away from her eye. It happened off base and tricare wouldn't cover it as it is a 3rd party injury. We are lucky that the homeowners insurance is settling. I would ask them to help with the bill or to get you the info of the owner so you can get money from them. Casey
