Yes my doctor said I have to lose a minimum of 12 lbs. So far I have lost 7 of those darn lbs.
LOL like 12 pounds is going to make a huge difference!! LOL Chin up 7 pounds is great!! You've got plenty of time to lose the rest!!
Who told you to lose the weight - dietician, internist, or sugeon?
When I went for my inital consult the surgeon said he might have me lose weight before and even go into the hosptial before hand to do so but I'm only supposed to see him like the week before surgery so don't know what is going on with that. I do have to go on a special diet a week or two before the surgery to help shrink the liver to make doing it laproscopically (sp?) easier - but other then that I don't know. I guess when I go to the two dietican classes in April I'll find out more.

I guess 12 lbs would be 5% of my weight which is the required weight loss before they will operate. They want you to lose some weight because it will shrink the size of the liver and during surgery they have to lift up your liver and move it out of the way so they can see what they are doing and I was told during my pre-op class that the liver can easily tear and that would cause it to bleed . That would be bad.
Ahhh okay!! That makes sense!! I have to follow a special diet the week before surgery (that is high in protein I beleive) to shrink the liver. But that is just before the surgery. I will be getting the diet in April so I'll see what it all entails. Interesting though the difference between doctors!!
Hi All,
Is any one from SC? I just went to my 2nd. meeting. I've got to go to my family Doctor on Monday and once a week for the next 6 weeks. I have to be weighed in and given some advice on how to eat and what all I can do to help me lose weight. There is just so much I can't do. I've had surgery on both my knees and 2 times on 1. I ask the Doctor after my 6 wks. are up, about how much longer before surg. and he told me about 2 months. So it will put me to having mine some where around, or in June too. It is so nice to at least have a time line to go by. WOW! Now it seem's to be feeling more real . I want to dance with my daughter, Her name is Brittany and she just turned 9 today. I want to be able to live a life in a normal body and do all I can do with her and my Husband. I need all the support I can get. I'm new to this site and so far it's been pretty nice. Keep up all your good deeds and Good Luck with all your surgeries .
God Bless You All,
Libby
