Hi guys! Okay, we are 10 months out. Is anyone having a hard time with slipping back into their evil eating ways? I find that I am. Today I am VERY concious about what is going in my mouth--protein protein protein. I have slipped into carb *(!$# and I can't get up! What is wrong with this picture? I'm down 100#'s and have basically met my goal short of a "tone-up". I DO NOT want to go back down that road! Help?!

Hi Mari! I am reading your post as I sit here eating popcorn! hehe Popcorn is my favorite snack! I think we have all "strayed" from the recommended diet at times. I am usually really good with eating - beside the occasional baked or mashed potato, I do not eat any carbs (bread, pastas) and I usually eat a lot of salads, veggies and meats and eggs. I am so much more aware of what I am eating now and how much I am eating. I think that new found freedom of food will stay with me forever. I know where I was before surgery and how unhealthy I was and I know I would not do anything to get back there. So, yes, I have snacked. I eat popcorn some and lately I have noticed that, at least once a week, I eat a small piece of choclate. Usually really small - like a mint or hersheys kiss. It is always just one small piece but it makes me wonder if that means I am failing? Then I think about the progress I have made and I feel better. I realize that only eating one hershey kiss a week as opposed to a whole bag a day before surgery is a huge accomplishment. This surgery is supposed to be a lifestyle change and I can honestly say it has changed my lifestyle and my food choices. I do not think of me being on a diet since it is a lifestye. And if you think to yourself that you are on a diet and can Never enjoy something you want or variety ever - then your mind plays tricks on you and makes you want to eat, eat, eat. So, if I "cheat" by eating pocorn once in a while or a baked potato or even one hersheys kiss, then I do not consider myself going back down the road of bad habits since I am eating healthy 95% of the time as opposed to 15-20% healthy eating before surgery. I am sure you are doing fine (you have lost 100#s). Just keep in mind how far you have come. You can use fitday.com to track your food everyday if you are worried about your intake. You may notice that you are on track with where you need to be and do not beat yourself up about the occasional "slips". Congrats on your weight loss! Misty

Yep - yep - yep. I have fallen into the carb trap. Lately, I've had a hard time finding ideas for protein again - especially quick on the go protein (I think I'll post separately for suggestions). I have to force my protein supplements and I even forget my vitamins sometimes. I do agree about the lifestyle changes though - even though I eat carbs - I eat far less than I used to. I don't really have much desire after the first few bites. I am more conscious of what I'm eating. But most importantly, I exercise daily and am enjoying it! That NEVER happened before. Just keep your self accountable. Weigh yourself often enough to keep an eye on things without driving yourself crazy. And I agree that as we get back to normal eating, having the chocolate kiss or cookie or baked potato once in a while is not bad. Even always thin people I've talked to do this. They allow themself something every once in a while and then stop it. Previously, that stopping never happened for me.

Ive actucally put myself more on track lately... I still have 23lbs to goal and I am trying to stay extremely focused to get there... they are proving very hard to get off!! Im going to keep trying but am wondering if this is where my body is happy and only PS will get off the rest of this flab I have!!! I didnt get too far off track but was getting lazy with the exercise and was eating more bread/grain carbs then I should... I still was doing great on the protein thou! I went back to using fitday.com and signed up with a trainer a few weeks ago to help get me to my goal. Definately easy to get off track thou... I am a huge fan of pizza and was eating it at least 2-3 times a week!! Im now only allowing myself 1 slice with the girls on friday for lunch (we always meet at the same place.. its the best!!). I definately eat a thousand times better than before but there is always room for improvement!!

Yes, I am seeing some of my old evil ways, especially the evening grazing. I do eat carbs, even the really bad ones, but I eat much, much less of them. I too have a hard time getting protein on the go. I am eating a lot of salad, but with lots of feta on it. I am definitely more active now than in the past. So even though I know I am slipping, I also know that I am making the gradual lifestyle changes I need to to be healthy. I do appreciate that people do come clean on this board, I don't feel quite as "evil" know it is a common struggle. Thanks all. Lori

I'm 18 lbs from MY goal. I see the surgeon tomorrow to see if he has another goal in mind. I know my PCP is good with my goal of 170. But if I don't ever lose this last weight, I'll be happy to stay where I'm at! (188) Yes, I've been eating carbs, but way less than before surgery. I can eat a W.W. lasagna entree by eating 1 of the noodles and then eating the rest of the meat/cheese/sauce. I can eat a sausage biscuit if I only eat the top or bottom of the biscuit. That's about the extent of the bread and pasta I can eat without it coming back on me. I eat more chili and rice or jambalaya, or chicken and rice than anything with pasta. I also eat salad with chicken or tuna or cottage cheese added for the protein. I am also guilty of the occasional Hershey miniature dark chocolate or a Kraft caramel, but mostly I eat fruit with cottage cheese or apples with peanut butter for that "sugar" fix. My biggest confession is that I have hardly exercised. I have 2 jobs and neither are sedentary. I work for a hospital labroatory full time and a doctors clinic lab part time. I am always moving. I know that if I step up my exercise outside of work, I'll probably lose the last 18 lbs plus, but right now, I have a hard enough time fitting in laundry and housework! LOL Crystal
