Anyone taking anti-depressents?
Hi everyone,
I was wondering what types of anti-depressents-if any- that people were taking and how they were wroking. I was on them before surgery, but stopped. I've liked the fact that the only thing I've had to take is vitamins, however I think that I need some help. My husband actually asked me last night "When did you're love change for me"... this is NOT the case... I love my husband more than anything, but it's my depression. I have a difficult time with life stresses (even good ones!) and I think I need to revisit the idea of taking an anti-depressent. I do not want prozac or disepramine, didn't like the side effects of either. I know there are some newer ones out there..Does anybody have any opinions on this? Thanks!!!
Kim
In addition to my above post. I was last on Effexor before suregery... this made me very very sick when I decided to go off of it. I will not go back on it again...it was scary to me to become that ill just from cutting back on the anti-depressant. I don't know if anybody else has had that, but I guess it is one of the side effects of Effexor. Not for me.
Hi Kim. I am not taking anything now but I used to take Effexor XR. It worked pretty good for me but yes, the withdrawal if you forget to take it for two days or when you try to stop taking it is the worst thing. Uggghhh. I remember coming off of it. I have a freind who takes Lexapro (Sp?) and she lives by it. Just make sure you research whatever you choose because some are notorius for weight gain.

Hi Kim-
I am sorry you are having troubles. How scary your husband thinks your love has changed. Not knowing how our bodies will process meds is very hard too.
I am wondering if I need a little help myself. I seem to be having an increasing problem in social situations. When there are discussions I worry about what I should be saying or that I am not contributing enough to the conversation. Then I get so involved in my thoughts I end up staring off into space and looking like I am bored with the conversation, which is not the case. I had this minorly before surgery but it seems to have increased quite a bit since surgery. I am not sure what it is called or what can be done about it.
Take care, Michelle
Michelle,
I have noticed that as I have become smaller I've become more noticeable. With that comes more expectations as no one really notices or expects much from the 'fat person'. Social anxiety is pretty common and can be helped a lot with counselling. Alternatively several of the anti-depressants have anti-anxiety properties which can help and are prescribed for just that. However, it doesn't address the cause, just the symptoms

Hi Kim,
I was taking Zoloft before surgery, and stopped taking it after, until about 1 month ago, I started taking them again. They have actually been a life saver. There are not very many side affects, and it begins working in the system right away. When I stopped taking them there were no withdrawal symptoms or any type of problem except my regular depression. Try looking up more info on the web and see if it would work for you. Good Luck!!!
