Hi everyone! I have been keeping tabs on all these post and most everyone is doing so awesome! I have been so down lately..lol I know this may be normal..but I just cant kick the feeling.... I started out at 370...and my surgery was on 6/12....Today I am 279..Im right at about 91lbs... (this is on a good day) lol Is this SUPER SLOW? or what, I am trying to keep my chin up. I have a lot of stuff going on in my life to keep me from doing things I know I need to be doing to help myself along..I know that exercise is key...I dont do it ...at all ! I take care of my disabled father, who is bed ridden..and I have a small child. So the only time I get to myself in on the weekends when I do have a little more help. I went to my family doctor yesterday, and she suggested if I am that concerned with my weight loss-that she can prescibe me a diet pill... I dont know what to think about that. I want to, but am having mixed feelings I guess, seeing as I just had the surgery--I shouldnt have to take this to help me along .... But they may since I am not physically able to get out and do the walking like i need to be...I did have a friend who mentioned a walking video called "walk away the pounds" ... she says its awesome...you just walk for thirty minutes with the tape in ur own home..so i ordered that and hope maybe i can find the time to get that in..... I still have a lot of weight to lose. I was stuck at 286ish FOREVER...like 3 months...and the scale is just now moving this week..so maybe thats a good thing Is anyone else in this predicament---real slow losers?! On a positive..I do thank God everyday for the chance to have this surgery..I had tried to have it for 6 years....lol so I am thankful --no matter how much belly achin I do

Hi Brooke. Congrats on the 91 pound loss. That is fantastic. Soon you will have lost 100 pounds. I think the stall is normal at this time frame (at least I am in a stall too). I think the majority of your weight loss is to happen in the first year (with most of that in the first 6 months) so we are on the slow spiral. You can still lose weight regularly though by sticking to the requirements including protein and fluid intake and taking your vitamins regularly. Are you getting in your protein and vitamins and fluids every day? Also, you may want to start keeping a journal of what you are eating/drinking every day. A lot of people use fitday.com. That way, you can notice what you may need to change. Are you having thyroid or metabolism issues that caused you to lose slower than normal (although 91 pounds does not sound slow to me)? I am just asking because I am really surprised that you were recommended a diet pill so soon after surgery. If you are like me, even at 9 months, your body is still recouperating and adjusting to the changes. I just think it will be hard on your body to start taking a diet pill. Plus, you should not be eating enough or hungry enough that you need a diet pill to control hunger. The surgery should have done most of that for you. This surgery is a hard journey. Don't forget why you had the surgery to begin with and just keep working at it. You will be fine. Be proud of the 91 pound loss. Thats 91 pounds that are gone forever. Misty

Hi Brooke- I can't believe your dr. offered you a diet pill. That is so scary. That is what we as wls people are trying to avoid. I have lost 98lbs since surgery. So you are about right were I am. Please don't tell me I am slow too??? I am not going to buy it. When is the last time you lost 91lbs in 9 months? This is not a quick fix or the easy way out. I think you are doing not only yourself but your family a great disservice by not exercising. They need you to be healthy in order to take care of them. How old is your child? Can you walk them around the block. Can you play with them in the livingroom by lifting them and dancing around? All of that counts as exercise and kids love that stuff. I think you might need to re-think how you want to live your life. I know I had surgery in order to be able to do more things. So as I lose the weight I DO more things. It is very exciting. I am now thinking about becoming a sheriff. How crazy is that???? I hope this wasn't too much tough love. Wishing you all the best, Michelle

HI, Brooke. 91 pounds is great! I've lost about 110 pounds, so not that far off from you. I'm stalling - but I know it's because I'm not eating as well as I should. I think the walking exercise video is an excellent idea. I used to take care of my FIL on weekends and I know how you can have absolutely no time or way to get away during the week when you don't have as much help. At least the video will allow you a way to do your exercise while you are still in the house in case he needs you. You can always stop the video if needed and resume after you take care of a situation. Depending on the age of your little one, she/he may enjoy "walking" right along with you. It might even provide entertainment for your father! You will have to make a commitment with yourself - it won't be easy with all you are doing for your father and little one, but try for 3x a week, then 4x, etc. You will probably benefit from additional energy (I know it's hard to believe but true). Good luck - hang in there, eat your protein, drink water and take your vitamins. You've got a lot going on and have done a great job so far!

I have lost #88. I am down to about losing #4 a month. I have a goal weight of #170. I have about #15 to lose to reach my goal. No, I do not plan on getting below 160-170. I have had 2 different doctors tell me that #170 would be a good weight for me. Right now I wear a size 12. Hang in there. We all go through stalls. Go back to the basics. I plan on going on the below plateau buster for 10 days. Plateau Buster Diet: #1 - Do this for 10 days to break a plateau #2 - Drink 2 quarts of water a day #3 - You must have 45 grams of protein supplement and all your vitamins/minerals supplements each day (some suggest at least 60 and up to 80 gr) #4 - You may consume up to 3 oz of the following high protein foods, 5x a day beef pork chicken turkey lamb fish eggs low fat cheese cottage cheese plain yogurt or artificially sweetened peanut butter beans/legumes You may also have: sugar free popsicles tea or coffee sugar free soda sugar free jello broths crystal light drinks #5 - If it's not on the list, you can't have it for 10 days!!!! #6 - Keep a food diary and try to get up to 30 mins of exercise daily Robin

I forgot to add that I really feel you on being a caretaker. I watched my Grandmother for a while and it is really hard work and can be very trying. So kudos to you for that. Michelle

Congrats on your loss so far. Its hard that you have so many responsibilities on your shoulders but you have to make time for yourself. We just spoke about this in my support group Monday. They said you have to "pay" yourself first everyday... the surgery is a gift and your body is a temple... you need to treat both as such! Its good you picked up a tape to do at home... I know its hard to find time but if you can find just 30 minutes a day to exercise that would help you so much!! If that means waking up early... cutting your lunch time down or staying up late... you need to make yourself a priority and fit it in!! Work your way up to longer... even if you can only do 15 minutes twice a day - its better than nothing! Stay away from the diet pills... shame on the Dr for offering... they only mess up your metabolism and are not good for long term weight loss. The point of this surgery is to give you a tool to use and to learn how to eat properly... not take diet pills and get your heart racing and not eating! Im sure your surgeon would not agree with you taking pills this early out from surgery. My friend had surgery 6 years ago in May. She started at 388 at 5'7" with a goal weight of 150-160. It took her about 4 years to lose her weight and she never reached her goal but was within a few pounds. Id say after her first two years she was down to around 200ish and it took her another two years to get off about 40 more pounds. Not sure what your surgeon told you to expect but I think you are doing great! Keep in mind the reasons you had this surgery... its hard being a mom to put yourself first but Im sure you had your child in mind... wanting to be around for them and healthy and able to play... so take some time for yourself to lose more weight and get healthy so you can be around for everybody that depends on you!
