The Pill-Question
Hi All,
I was on the pill before surgery and stopped right before. I have been thankful for not having to take it...the only thing I'm taking now are vitamins. I was reading the previous posts and I am wondering if I'm missing something.
What I hear is that some of you feel that the pill helps "level out" your hormones... as someone who suffers from depression and anxiety, have any of you found that going back on the pill actually did help with this? Also, I was always told that the pill causes you to gain weight......that obviously scares the crap outta me! Do any of you worry about this side effect?
One more question... are you concerned that the absorption of the pill won't be the same as before and increase your risk of pregnancy?
Thanks in advance for helping me with all these questions.
Blessings,
Kim
I don't know about the pill leveling out hormones I was just told by my Doc that I had to take it. As for the weight gain thing I was really worried about that too but the 1st week I was on it I lost 7lbs. I have not had any problems with gaining any weight. I did stop taking the pill about 1 month ago (I could not always remember to take it) not I use Ortho Evra patch and love that!
If you read the research about the pill making you gain weight its very iffy... depending on the pill the weight gain is around 5lbs over the span of a few years. They are now thinking that its just people gaining weight and not really the pill. Everybody is different so you just have to keep an eye. Id much rather gain a few pounds then gain a baby at this point!!! I was on the depo when I had surgery - postop my hormones went all wacky... I would get PMS/cramps even thou I hadnt had my period in almost 2 years (had NO issues on the shot previously)!! I stopped the depo and switched to the pill and have been much better since. My surgeon swears there is no absorption issue with the pill when taken CORRECTLY. To be safe thou I would suggest a back up method for the first 6-12 months postop.
I was told by one doc that absorption was an issue, so my gyno put me on the Nuva ring , which is a ring you insert for 3 weeks, then discard for 1 week to have a period, get a new one and insert for 3, etc etc.. it has worked great, before surgery i had an IUD for over a year, and after surgery i started bleeding non-stop.. got an u/s found out my IUD was in my cervix the whole time and i was never protected.. scared the jeebies outta me! lol So now im using the ring, and its been working great for 6 mths.. no problems, i dont even know its "there".. plus it has the exact same amount of hormones and everything just like the pill its just absorbed differently.. (obviously)
