I am now at a 7 week stall.
Does this mean that I am done losing? I have lost about 70 pounds and have not lost now for at least 7 weeks. My starting weight was 295. At my 6 month appointment, I was 225 (according to their scale). My scale says 211. Anyway, I have not lost anymore weight. I had my labs drawn and everything is perfect. Right where it needs to be and they told me to keep doing what I am doing. However, I am getting very discouraged... I increased my water intake and am getting in all of my protein. I am averaging about 700 calories per day.
Any ideas on what I can do to jump start my weight loss again? I hope this is not the end of my loosing.
Hi. I had my surgery 2 weeks before you and I have been stalled for over 6 weeks. It is starting to scare me also. I started at 275 and I now weigh 213. So you see, I have only lost a total of 62 lbs. I haven't been exercising at all. I do really well on the water. I do a shake early in the morning. I usually have breakfast around 9:30 A.M. like for breakfast this morning I had left over meatloaf. My portions seem to be the right amount. I have noticed though, I am really starting to crave sweets! Last night before bed I had 3 marshmellow and chocolate on a cookie base, cookies. It seems that daily I am making some bad choices. These bad choices are probably not enough to make me gain weight but enough to make me stop losing. I keep thinking that I should just go on liquids for some time to kick start the loss, but can't seem to commit to it. I can say that during the holidays I pretty much ate what I wanted but at smaller qaunities then I would have done pre-op. I'm only hoping that is the reason for this long stall. I wish you all the luck in the world that you start losing again soon. And I will keep up with this post to see what you get in responses. Paula

I would bet that 700 calories is not enough for you to be eating. Try upping it to 900-1000 and keep on the exercise and see if that gets the scale moving. I know we've been conditioned to eat less to weigh less, but 700 calories is probably putting your body into shutdown mode where it's going to hold onto every calorie it can get. Talk to your nutritionist.
Also make sure 40-50% of your calories are coming from protein. I keep track of what I eat at fitday.com and have found it to be a useful tool for keeping track of protein, fat, and carbs.
Good luck!

I havent had a stall... but I did slow down to a snails pace. In Nov I lost 1lb... 1lb!!! Over the month the scale kept going up and down each week... down 3lbs up to 2lbs etc. I went to a support group and the NUT there mentioned we should be having a max of 60g carbs a day. My NUT never said anything about carbs. When I got home I looked over and I was eating over 100g carbs each day easy! The first two weeks of Dec I cut back carbs to between 30-60 and lost 5lbs... I was on vacation the next two weeks so I wasnt keeping the best track. This month Ive been watching carbs and lost 4lbs already! Ive averaged 1-2lbs a week so this is even better than when I was first out!! This month may end up being my biggest losing month yet if I average around 4 lbs a week! Anyways... thats just my experience but its something to look at. You may want to up your calories some as well. My NUT reccomends between 800-1000 at this point. If you up a little that could kick start your metabolism. Also are you eatin a variety of foods or the same thing ever day? Are you getting fruits/veggies?? How bout fat? Fiber?? Mixing up your diet should help If after trying some changes you are still stalled I would call your NUT and see what they say
Oh hun I know how you feel!! I had surgery the same day you did and I have been stalled for 4 weeks now and I am getting really frustrated & discouraged! I did talk with my Doc about it and he told me this is normal and I should not let it get to me. Are you exercising? I know for me it's a really BIG part of my weight lose and I have not been to the gym in 3weeks because I have been out of town! All I can really say is keep doing what you have been doing and the weight will start coming off again! I am also eating about 700 cal per day; do you count your carbs? I don't let myself eat anymore than 60carbs per day! Beet of luck!
