Food Protein sources

I thought it might be helpful for people to list food protein sources they are able to tolerate. Not the protein shakes but real food. I need to boost my protein up and I can't eat a lot of beef/chicken meat -- so I run out of ideas. This is what I can do: eggs cheese canned chicken or tuna sirloin beef jerkey (from Walmart) Carb Watcher yogurt Those are my mainstays besides my protein shakes.

I can eat beef and chicken usually. Once in a while something sits heavy and I have to stop after a bite or 2. I made a casserole last night with shredded chicken, pinto beans and cheese mixed with a can of tomato sauce and a pack of chili seasoning topped with a box of Jiffy corn bread. I made it in a 9x11 pan so the corn bread was thin. It was yummy but a little too spicy for DS. Nuts. I eat peanuts, almonds, walnuts, pistachios, pecans, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds. I am a nut for nuts. Beef Jerky. I like the brand they sell at Costco. It is called Pacific Gold I think. Cheese. I eat lots of cheese. String cheese and cheddar usually. Beans. I love beans. Mostly pinto beans. One of my favorite things is to put a corn tortilla in the toaster oven to make a crispy tostada and top it with RF beans, cheese, tomatos and hot sauce. Yum! Protein pancakes or waffle. I mix egg, ricotta cheese, oatmeal, vanilla, and a tsp of pancake mix. One time I added banana and walnuts. Yum! I must say that I love my Unjury shakes too. I make one with the chocolate and decaf coffee crystals that tastes like a frappachino. Yum! I also like to put peanut butter and banana in a chocolate shake too. Michelle in SoCal

I am a real chicken and fish lover. I marinate my chicken thighs (boneless and skinless) in soy sauce and balsamic vineger for about 2 days. Then pop them babies on the George Forman Grill. I do the same with Salmon and Swordfish. I eat grilled steak once a month. That is the only beef beside jerky that I eat. I found that SciFit Fat free beef Stix are the best. 60 calories, no fat and 15 grams of protein. I usually have one of those as a snack. Stringsters string cheese, Armeinian String Cheese (high in fat but only a little piece is dense and filling.) I make my tuna with low fat mayo and wasahbi paste. Not to hot but definitely not boring. I concoct some great protein drinks with the Unjury flavors and DiVinci's Sugar Free Syrup. My fav is choc. protein, instant decaf expresso, carmal SF syrup , anc chocolate SF syrup. Lots of ice, blended until just slightly lumpy (from the ice). I have no problem getting my proteins in, now if I could just get all my water in. Jeanne

Hi Jeanne- Where do you get the SciFit Fat free beef Stix? They sound really good. Are they like the Slim Jim type? Michelle in SoCal

Hi Michelle: I bought mine at Vitalady.com She has it the cheapest and offers a discount for a 20 stik offer. They are not as big as the ones from Walmart, but I found them to be more tasty and more filling. She also has a great sale going on for DiVinci Syrups. Jeanne

I can eat most chicken and beef as long as it's not overcooked and it's a good cut. But when I'm going through a "sensitive pouch" time I turn to the crock pot. A pork loin in the crock pot with a couple of packages of Lipton Onion Soup, some carrots, potatos and onions is one of my favorite and most soothing meals. (You need to add the carrots and potatoes later - about an hour or 2 before dinner so they don't get too soggy) Also, I find veal goes down very well. I saute a small piece with a little olive oil and some onions and mushroons with salt and pepper for lunch. It's really good. Hope you found some good suggestions! Carolyn

Walmart has whey protein that I mix in with my yogurt for a vanilla malt taste. It adds the protein and tastes good too. I add about half a measure full to a thing of low-fat yogurt. Also Taco Bell beans are wonderful.
