How much do you eat?
OK, I'm feeling like a pig. I think I eat almost a cup of food at a time now. Much of it is vegetables with maybe 2 to 3 oz. of meat. I'm only 10 1/2 weeks out. I don't get the full sensation until it's too late, so I portion what I think I should eat. I've lost 45 pounds, so something must be going right. I DO worry that I'm eating too much, though. I've been plateaued for over 2 weeks. Lisa, do you actually feel full when you eat? I wish I did.

Hi Traci,
Yes, I can actually feel full! I don't feel hunger like I did before surgery, but I know when I need to eat. Oh, and my intention was NOT to make anyone feel bad about how much they eat. If you're eating things that are pretty soft, then you would be able to get more in. I think I get 2oz most of the time, sometimes more, sometimes less. I do meet with the nurse next week, I guess I'll find out then how I'm doing

It depends on what I eat. Something dense like chicken or meat and I can only eat 2-3 ounces, although I was able to eat a whole scoop of chicken salad last week which I estimated at about 1/2 cup. Veggies/salad I can eat more. I've also discovered I cannot eat as much at home - don't know why but I get the full flag much quicker. I don't "overeat" when I'm out, just can eat more without getting the full flag. And I have no ill effects afterwards so I feel I'm not over eating. I've gone from eating about 500 cal a day to closer to 800 calories. I'm sure my weight loss will start slowing down. So far though I've unofficially lost 56 since surgery, 65 including pre-op diet.
Hi Traci, I'm still having issues, so I'm going to go have an endoscopy on the 20th. It seems like less and less is going down well.
It's frustrating.. Just taking breakfast and lunch yesterday as an example. I had 1/2 a scrambled egg for breakfast, and for lunch, 2 slices of lunch meat (small, thin) and a small amount of reduced fat cheese (not sure of amt, I didnt weigh it). It just seems like that's about all I can get in before I feel like it's backing up. This may be odd, but if it is a stricture, I'd feel better about the whole thing ;)

Hi Lisa,
I had my surgery almost 14 weeks ago and I know what you mean about not feeling like you are eating enough. I barely get in 2-3 oz of my protein at a sitting, maybe a little more if it's fish. And I only eat 2-3 times a day. I know that I am not getting enough protein, but I am never hungry and everything still tastes weird to me. I'm told that goes away by 4 months or so.
If you like fish, like Talapia, I have a pretty good recipe.
Hope all continues to go well with you.

Hi Lisa,
I am getting in about a 1/4 cup as well, sometimes maybe a 1/3 of a cup. I still have to kick myself in the rear to slow down at meals sometimes. I made tacos for dinner the other night and dished up for everyone and myself last. I stupidly, and automatically made a full taco, piled with meat before I realised that I would probably only be able to eat about a quarter of it. Sometimes I think I skate right by the learning curve, but hopefully don't end up slamming into the wall.

If it's meat, I'm only able to eat "maybe" an ounce at a time.. Usually a little less than an ounce. If I eat more than that I am over-full, and feel gross.
I also find that my taste has changed quite a bit -- things I used to love - cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, - make me nauseated just thinking about them.
Since I haven't been able to eat very many ounces of solid foods, I've been getting most of my protein from the "new whey protein drinks".. 25g of protein in only 3 oz. comes in blue rasberry and fruit drink flavors. they are a little tart, so I add a tad of water to them.
