Bread Anyone?
My surgeon allowed anything we could tolerate at 6 weeks out. He said if we wanted bread it was best to have it toasted as soft bread wads up and can plug the outlet from our pouch. I was never much of a bread eater but I did have a very small piece of a really soft roll the other day. It went down just fine.
Only a bite - like when I make my dd give me a bit of her Subway sandwich (rather than ordering one for me that I'm going to just take one bite of). I had no problems but it sat like a pit in my stomach. Two nights ago, aliens took my brain and I must have "forgot" I had surgery b/c I fixed a hot dog in bun and when I took the first bite, I thought - ack! Again, no problems on one bite but it sat like a pit.
Frankly, the few bites I have had haven't tastes all that great so it's not something I'll probably try to eat.
I've been doing a little bread for quite a while. White or wheat. Mostly it goes okay. Like everything, some days it's okay, some days it comes up. You'll know right away if it feels like it is "stuck" it isn't going to be good. But for the most part it goes okay. Good luck! I'd go with the whole wheat variety as that has been the best bet.
After the first 2 weeks post-op I was allowed "dry bread" so basically toast, crackers... anything that wont get "gummy" in the stomach. I have had no problems so far... I eat tortilla chips, toast, whole wheat wheat thins. I even eat some non "dry breads" with no problem... whole wheat tortilla wraps etc. Just be careful with some breads - they have quite a bit of calories for a little bit
