Hi everyone...I had my surgery on June 12th and I am down I think around 40lbs.....I just had some questions and wonder if anyone else was experiencing the same thing...I know on some days I cannot eat much at all..I can take one bite of something and be sick for an hr throwing up....But then there are days where I like to snack! I just wonder if I eat to much?? Last night for example. I went to Golden Corral, they let me order a childs buffet ( I know I dont need a buffet, but thats where the family was going)..On my plate, I had a little corn, small amount of green beans, a little bit pf pot roast and mashed potatos. Next thing I know, my plate is almost cleaned. I looked down and noticed that and I quit eating.....Thing was, I wasnt even really full? Now if my stomache is as small as its suppose to be, why does it seem like sometimes I can eat a lot?! I just get so paranoid that my surgery didnt work!!! Does anyone else think they eat to much?? Or get paranoid?! Does my weightloss sound normal??? I would love your input.... Brooke

I have the same problems minus the throwing up. This weekend I went camping and had a small corn, shrimp kabob, and a very small salad and didn't feel like I over did it, but this morning I barely could eat a half banana. I have never thrown up from eating too much and sometimes think to myself that I have already streched my pouch out. I think I need to start measuring my foods ( I haven't been good at that ). YOUR NOT ALONE!!!!

I think your weight loss sounds normal. And it sounds like you may be having a good time with the socializing aspect of eating out that you miss that you did actually eat. So then it feels like you didn't eat (b/c you don't remember it). I think when you are distracted, you can eat more. Last night I ate one bit of lean briscuit -- I was distracted and didn't chew it very well and swallowed it! Oh, my, I thought I was in trouble so I left the table and didn't eat anything until very late in the night. I hadn't even really realized it until this morning. Usually I can eat more in the day (I guess my stomach is totally empty) than I can in the evening. I think it just goes with the flow - sometimes more/sometimes less. I can eat 1/2 c of cott. cheese with no pain, but only a bite of chicken. Doesn't make much sense. Congrats on your weight loss. That's awesome.

I was told by my surgeon/nut to stay away from corn for at least 3-4 months... you may want to doublecheck and see if your allowed - "normal" bodies dont digest corn so it can prove even trickier in ours!!! Feeling full - my nut told me it can take some people a long time to actucally know when they are "full" some people start around 3-4 months others 6+ months out. She told me to keep measuring my meals out until I got my full feeling back. I am 7 weeks out today and meals should be up to 1/2 cup each at this point. If you cant measure or dont want to she said to keep meals to a 1/2 hour - eat slow and take breaks... since we cant really stuff ourselves you would eat a "normal" amount as long as you stopped at a half hour. Certain foods will make you feel fuller longer and some move thru the pouch quicker hence sometimes being able to eat more... think about it... you could eat a good amount of soup... but only a little bit of a sandwich Weightloss - I had surgery June 20th and am down 30lbs so I would say you sound normal... its hard when some people lose so much more but I know for me I am a lightweight so the weightloss wont be as large. I see my surgeon again in 5 weeks... he told me originally I should be down around 60lbs when he sees me - just doesnt seem realistic.. I am hoping to at least lose another 10-15lbs in the next 5 weeks.

Brooke, My surgery was June 8. I am going to share something I've learned. When I go out with hubby/friends, I tend to eat faster, therefore more. I carefully put on my plate -even a buffet what I want to eat. Then I practice putting my fork down after each bite. I also work on chewing that bite much longer than I think necessary. Usually I do pretty well with this system, but sometimes its hard. We went to LaFiesta the other night. I ordered a chicken burrito with refried beans. Cut off the part of the burrito I thought I could eat and the beans - then put them on another plate. My husband had a full meal and my leftovers. I was busy eating away, laughing at what hubby was saying and just enjoying myself. Without realizing it, I had grabbed a nacho chip from the communtiy bowl, dipped it and was eating it. I'd already finished my meal and now was eating a chip - augh! I stopped right away with one chip, but after about 20 min. I found myself with the "dry heaves" and "sweating mouth". We all have to remember that we don't feel that fullness and have to be careful. when we do mess up - we pay the price. I'm learning and so are you. We'll make it. LOL

Hi, brooke, I am a June 5th baby and I have similar confusions. Some days I can barely get a cup of food in and other days I can eat a full plate full. Usually it takes me awhile, but meals sometimes flow together. I will have a plate with egg, bacon, hashbrown, and still be working on it at noon. I just keep comparing it to what i could put down before surgery and there is no contest. I have good days and bad days. Some of this progress is up to us and our head issues. Which is why I am still in counseling. michel

Brooke, I had surgery 2 days after you. I am down 40 lbs. As to the amounts, are you taking 20-30 min to eat> it takes your brain that long to realize you are full, and are you eating protien first, then vegs and starch? The surgery does work, you have to follow the program too. Sounds like you are doing good, just remember to eat slowly and mostly protien. Good luck, teri

My WLS told me to avoid potatoes, corn, peas and all breads, crackers, and pastas till I reached my goal weight. Your weight loss fall into norm for the surgery...avoid more of the high starch items and loss may increase. Sankie
