What are other early Juners eating?
It has been almost 2 months since my surgery and I am feeling great. I have lost 49 lbs. as of this morning!!! I am able to eat just about anything (that I am supposed to, that is). No problems with any foods (chicken, fish, eggs, etc.). I even had a piece of thin crust cheese pizza tonight. (It was good, but not as good as I thought it would be!) I feel very fortunate!!!
I was just wondering about others of you...what are you guys eating and how much? Do you shoot for a certain number of calories, protein, etc.?
Thanks for sharing!
Susan
I had surgery 6/20 and aim for 60-80g protein and 600-800 calories. Starting in another week I will aim for 60-80g protein and 800-700 calories. At this point each serving is 3 oz (1/4th cup). My nut said to keep around this size and eventually go up to 1/2 cup size portions when I was ready. I use fitday.com to keep track of my eating but prepare my breakfast, lunch and two snacks in advance for work so I already know what I will get in prior to dinner.
I havent had any food tolerance issues so far either Its a blessing and a curse... wouldnt mind a few things I could no longer eat!!!
Hi Jennifer --
You emailed me some recipes the other day...thank you!!! It sounds like you and I are on about the same plan! Who is your nutritionist? Mine is Barbara Bapst.
I am a school teacher and go back to work in 2 weeks. So, I will have to do the same and have my lunch and snacks prepared before I leave home. What do you usually take?
I also agree with you about the food tolerance. I told Dr. V. that one of the reasons I chose the RNY is because I didn't want to be able to eat certain things!!
Have a great day!
Susan
I'm 4 weeks out and down only 19 pounds. I'm getting really, really frustrated with that, but I know it will start coming off. Anyway, I'm eating eggs, refried beans, string cheese, fish and yesterday had shrimp for the first time. It was really good. I'm shooting for 65 grams of protein per day. Most days I make it and the days I don't I'm usually very close.
I don't count proteins or calories yet. I don't think I'm suppose to be...My NUT has got me on two ounces of protein, two ounces of carb. and two ounces of fruit or veg. three times a day. In addition, I am to drink 16-24 ounces of skim milk, 8-12 ounces of fruit veg. or V8 juice, and lots of water. No snacking. They gave a limited list of what kinds of each I could try, but I am getting bored with all of the choices.
I've lost about 40 lbs in six weeks, but am tired a lot. Many that I've talked to said I need more protein. I am seeing the NUT and the surgeon on Aug. 10, 8 week check up, so I've got lots of questions then.
Its hard because I really don't want to eat - and getting all of the fluids in has been really difficult. I don"t know if I'm doing things right or not - but I'm doing the best I can.
I found that I am able to eat alot of carbs and veggis with no problem...however meat, dairy and now eggs are making me
I'm supposed to get 60-100 grams of protein a day but it is so hard.
64oz of water a day ....still struggling.
pasta, potatoes, are ok.....
chicken that is mushy is ok.
fruits and salads are kewel....
I don't do protein drinks but I will be getting the profect or unjury to began supplementing them in my meals....

Sorry you're having issues!!!!
I have been so afarid of eating the wrong things, that if something didn't have a sufficient amt. of protein, I didn't eat it. But...when I met with my nutritionist the other day, she said that I need to work on integrating more carbs into my diet. I have missed eating those delicious summer fruits!
I hope things get a little easier for you! Keep up the good work!
Best Wishes,
Susan
Have you tried using unflavored protein and adding it to food?? You could sneak it in the taters, pasta and even into your drinks. Some good high protein sources (non dairy) are tuna fish (3oz = 21g) NSA pnut butter (2 tablespoons = 9g)... if you like soy/veggie products they are good sources of protein as well... I LOVE soy crisps (18 crisps = 7g).
