Weight loss question
Does anyone know where we can find a weight loss guide as to what the average weight loss is for the different surgeries. I had RNY on June 8. At first the weight loss was really minimal, then it got pretty good. I lost 30+ lbs the first month. However it has really slowed down these last two weeks and I wondering if this is normal - or if I am doing something wrong. Any ideas, or good sites/resources to check out? How about anyone else out there. How has your weight loss been thus far?
Everybody is different so there is no chart or guide to compare to. At my 2 week post-op follow up my surgeon said for me (I am a lightweight) the first 3 months I should lose 10-15lbs and then at 3 months we would set my goal weight. Somebody from here said they were told the same and after 3 months it should go down to 8-11lbs. I am just 5 weeks out so I cant say at this early out if that will be how I lose. My NUT said the weightloss is like waves in the ocean - sometimes big, sometimes small, sometimes none at all so it is normal that it will slow down - you have to look more from a monthly picture than weekly since each week can vary so far. The first two weeks postop I didnt lose a single pound!! Since surgery I am down 14lbs... I lost 14lbs on the 2 week pre-op liquid fast so a total of 28lbs.
When I went to my 1 month check up last week I discussed this with my surgeon. I have lost 28 lbs since surgery, but about 20 of that was the first 2 weeks and then only 8 pounds in almost 3 weeks. He said I was right on track and not to worry. He said that I should only expect to lose 8-10 pounds a month. It seems like a lot of people in the oh community lose a lot faster than that, but as long as it comes off, I guess I can't complain. I know that one of my problems for losing so slow is that I am not getting in enough protein.
Everything they've said is the truth. From what I've read we are all on the right track. I'm out one month and I'm at about 30 lbs. Everyone says your body has to catch up with the weight loss. Your body is adjusting to what you've lost. You'll probably notice your clothes are fitting differently. You're going down in inches right now. I don't think there is any book to tell you what is "normal". You have to go by your own body. The fact is we just have to follow the guidelines set up by our own docs. Walk, drink water, and watch what we eat!!! Get in the protein!!
