Misconceptions of Excess skin
Hi everyone!
I went with a friend yesterday to a plastic surgeon she has a lot of excess skin.I got to talk with the plastic surgeon as well with my own concerns.
It particularly concerned me After reading some of the remarks of excess skin due to fast weight loss on Shar lo's previous post I figured I would ask the surgeon his view on this and this is what he had to say:
When you put a lot of weight on and the skin stretches beyond what is allowed you will have excess upon losing natuarally.
It does not matter how fast or slow you lose the skin has already been stretched beyond its point.Yes fast weight loss gives you loose skin faster but slow weight loss just takes longer for it to form.
he said excercise right away will help a little, sometimes a lot depending on your size, but if the skin is already stretched beyond its point there is no amount of excercises that can fix it.
That is why so many Gastic Bypass patients need plastics because the skin simply can not go back to it's original state.
He said this holds particularly true for tummy, breasts, arms and legs.
I felt better hearing this from him.
I know I will have to have panni and breast lift.urghhhhhhhhhhh close to the tune of $10,000 if the insurance won't cover it,I guess I won't be trading in my car for a new one next year.
I hope this helps with some of the excess skin concerns.

ps.I guess these plastic surgeons are making a ton of money from Gastrics patients!!!
Thanks so much for posting on this topic. I have been wondering about things to reduce the extra skin, hoping that exercise, lotions, protein intake would allow a more "forgiving" environment...it seems that plastic surgery will likely be a step in this journey for most of us. Have you found any other useful tools?
Mary
My useful tool is a progressive savers bank account Any spare change goes in a jar then to the bank. I figure in four years time I will be looking into this surgery and I want to have the means to do it. I think using creams etc is psychologically helpful but honestly plastic surgery is the only thing that will 'fix' it. Everyone is different and a lot of factors affect the degree to which one is affected. Some are luckier than others! Exercise helps because good muscle tone holds it up more... unless it is a great amount....... On the positive side at least I'll have an excuse to have a face/neck/everything lift besides vanity
