Losing like a turtle
Hey, June babies!
Is anyone else losing like a turtle? My surgery was June 9 and I have lost 22 pounds. Now I realize people think I should celebrate this loss, but 22 pounds in almost 6 weeks? My PA says this is great for a "lightweight" (my starting weight was 213), but I haven't even gone down a size yet. I log my food on Fitday, and my daily calorie intake ranges between 380-500 calories a day. I am following all protocol exactly as my surgeon specified. Any one else out there loosing sloooooowly?
What if this fails?

I'm also a june babe(june 6),I am also losing slowly these past 2 weeks. I am 33lbs lighter from my surgery. I am doing everything that I am suppose to, taking my vitamins, eating the right foods, drinking my water, doing the shakes. But I keep telling myself, at least I am still losing. I haven't lost like this in a very long time.

Hi Sher Lo,
I am just like you. I started at 216 and at 4 weeks am down 16 pounds. At 3 weeks it was 14 and my Dr was very happy because he said of my "total loss goal" it was 15%. I haven't gone down a size yet either, although my size 18 jeans are much more comfortable. I must say that I welcome the slow loss, because I think it will help avoid the loose skin issues. The weight is going to come off... you won't fail. And more importantly it will stay off. But, believe me I know how you feel. I just focus on getting in all of my protein and fluid. I haven't been as great about exercise since I went back to work, but I am stepping that up too. That will be important for the skin as well. Don't get discouraged and feel free to email me anytime!

hello All,
I had my surgery on June 15th and on July 12th doc visit I was down 21lbs. I was happy with this like stacy cause I am concerned about hanging skin. Although I'm young and doc says this is a plus with wls it's no gurantee.
If you want to pick up your weight loss and realy pu**** I would suggest,
1 - make sure protein intake is 60 to 100 grams a day
2 - Excercise (no weight lifting though cause that builds muscle which inturns increases weight)
3 - Drink a minimum of 64ozs of water a day
4 - Cut out all sugar, bad carbs, fats through oils, mayo & butter etc.
I haven't weighed since I've been to the doctor but many and I have noticed inches are gone and my clothes are looser and some even hang but I'm not going to weigh myself until the 12th of August (1 month) .
Hope this helps

nepo,
Oh...to be young again. I guess I will settle for being young at heart. Yeah, I hit 60 on the protein on most days and on a really good day I even hit 70, but it's hard. I just want to wake up thinner...dream on. This is hard work, but it will be worth it. I sometimes worry that I will be the only one that it didn't work for...what a nightmare. Thanks for your support and you are doing great!

2 - Excercise (no weight lifting though cause that builds muscle which inturns increases weight)
You can lift weights to tone, define and help build some muscle. Even if muscle supposidly increases weight - muscle burns more calories than fat so you would be better off. Id rather weight more because of muscle then weight less and be all flab with fat!! I use 3-5lbs to work out my arms, back and legs!
4 - Cut out all sugar, bad carbs, fats through oils, mayo & butter etc.
There are oils that are "good fats". Also, diet needs some fat in it - just have to choose the correct fat. As for butter - your body processes natural foods better than fake... you are actucally better off eating butter (in moderation) then all that "fake" butter (thats if you choose to use butter at all). Sugar - you should cut back on REFINED sugars... fruit has sugar and fruit is good for you!
A good book to check out (which was featured on Oprah and Dateline) is "YOU! The Manual!" They go over pretty much everything you need to know - it is very intersting!!

Stacy,
Thank goodness someone else knows what I am experiencing! I hope you are right! It WILL be worth it in the end...and I could do more exercise also. I go back to work tomorrow. What do you take to work to eat? I am worried about getting in all the protein and water once I am back to work. It takes the whole day when I am home. How do you do it?
Keep in touch, ok?

When you compare to people who have a lot more to lose - yah we lose slowly. But really - Ive never lost this much this quick in my life!!! I had surgery June 20th and am down a total of 28lbs - I had to do a 2 week liquid pre-op and lost 14lbs on that... if you count only what I lost from the surgery I am down 14lbs! So far Ive been losing about 3-4lbs a week. My surgeon said for the first 3 months I should lose between 10-15 and then after that he didnt say. Somebody on here told me they were told around 8-11lbs after the first 3 months. I have gone down a size in pants - but am still wearing the same shirts... the pants are a little tight but my other pants just looked silly on me! Just keep your chin up and dont compare yourself to people who had twice as much weight to lose as you - If you started at 213 and are down 22lbs thats great - how much more to goal?? Think of how much closer you are then a lot of people... sure you may not lose as much but will be at goal much sooner!!! I am hoping to be at goal by xmas!! My friend who is 4 years out took over 2 years and shes still not at her goal... she was almost 400lbs when she started! Sooo Ill take losing slowly with less to lose then losing quickly and have a ton to lose!!
:hugs:
Jennifer,
I hope to be to goal by Christmas also. My surgeon's goal for me is 135 (mine is secretly 120, but at this rate, that will never happen). So...if I reach my surgeon's goal, I guess I am 25% toward goal with 58 pounds to go. Gosh, your friend has come a long, long way. What is your goal?
Hmmm...if I lose 10 pounds a month I should be almost there.
for all of us on the losing side!
