Please don't think I'm crazy. I've lost 26 lbs since June 15th but I have been stuck at the same weight for the past 5 days. Is this normal? Does anyone else or has anyone else plateaued yet? Any input would be awesome!! Thanks!

Hi, Holly, I had surgery on june 6th and have lost 25lbs to and these past week I have been stuck also. Wondering why this is happening also, haven't changed my routine. I'm going to try walking a bit more maybe that will help. Penny

Hey Holly! I had my RNY on June 5th (and did a 2 week liquid diet pre-op). On my 3rd week out from surgery - I stalled for 8 days - not a pound. But, the scale started moving again finally! I am down 39 lbs.! I just try to remember to do my part (water, protein, etc) and let the rest take care of itself! Best of luck! Susan

Hi! Congrats on your weight loss so far! That being said---- Stay off the scale!!!! Bodies do weigh more and less on certain days and certain hours of the day. A plateau I think is technically a couple of MONTS at the same weight, not a couple of Days. Once a week is good for weighing. Also, make sure you're getting in all your water and protein, as that will help! Hope this helps! Lisa

I know it's hard, but Lisa's advice is key. Stay off the scale. Our bodies are adjusting to a lot of things right now. You may not be losing pounds, but shifting may be happening in your body that will result in changes in clothes. Don't sweat the daily weigh in if possible. Keep it to a week. Better mental health.

A plateau is when you dont lose weight for a period of 4 weeks or longer. So no - you are not plateauing. If you are becomming scale obsessed allow yourself to only weigh once a week. Also taking your measurements will help - sometimes we dont lose pounds but we lose inches. For 2 weeks post-op I didnt lose one pound, then starting last tuesday the scale finally starting moving and I am down 7. My NUT said weight loss post-op is like the ocean - waves. You will have weeks with high weight loss, weeks with no weight loss and some weeks with no weight loss. In those first two weeks even thou the scale did not move - my pants were falling off me and people began asking me about losing weight. So the moral of the story is there is more to it then just what the scale says!

I have always read that if you're having a plateau (or perhaps stall in this case) a change in routine is necessary!! change it up! Drink most of your protein in the morning instead of at night, walk in the evening instead of the morning.. add time to your walk, drink more water... just change it up! You gotta trick the body into falling back in line sometimes. That said - the MOST common "plateau/stall" I read about on the boards is the 3 week one. It is sooooo normal!! But people still often end their first month with HUGE weight losses, and their bodies get back to work shortly thereafter. You're probably just 'rearranging" Also - it's about the time when you're body goes, hey... wait a minute. this is for real!!! Try to stay off the scale and just go with how your body is feeling if you can! (((HUGS))) Tin K

OMG, Thanks so much for the replies! I really feel so much better now! I'm so used to my "old" way of losing weight where nothing seems to work. Like Tin K said though, my body will start to say "this is for real" this time! I wasn't aware of the 3 week "plateau" either. So that makes me feel MUCH better! Thanks a million!!!!

Same thing for me. I was 213 at surgery and am 192 today. Only 21 pounds at 1 month and 3 days out. The scale is my enemy! It lies! I will not volunteer to give in to the enemy. I will march on in the battle. I will yell my battle cries. I will follow my orders and be a good soldier. I will not whine... complain... or question... Sher Lo
