3 weeks post -op : can't drink water and very depressed, help!
I am new to this site and I have read that everyone is very helpful. What I would like to know if anyone has the problem of pain when swallowing water?
I have lost 30 lbs but feel that nothing is changing and that I will always be a prisioner in my own body. Is depression common after surgery? I have a feeling of being lost and my friends tell me to call any time but when I do, they do not have the time for me.
Also, I would like to update my profile and can't figure out how. I am so computer literate.
Thanks for any help,
Judy
Judy, I have this problem too. See the "I feel like crap" post. I found out I was drinking too much and I need to sip and slow it down. Also, I've lost 24 lbs since June 15th and I don't feel like I look any different. My clothes fit a teeny tiny bit better. My surgeon told me not to worry. He said "It's going to come off". He said that the weight you lose the first couple of weeks is dehydration and liver shrinkage. He said that our bodies will really start to burn fat for energy during the 3rd and 4th month and that we'll be melting away! 30 lbs is a lot even though it doesn't feel like it. You are WELL on your way. Focus on staying healthy and healing gal. The rest will fall into place! If you ever need to talk you can definately email me @ [email protected]. Congrats on your success so far and I'm sending warm and fuzzies your way chickadee!
Welcome Judy,
I have not had problems swallowing water, but you might want to try different temps of water. Most people say room temp water works best for them, however I have found that the only way I can drink water is ice cold.
30 lbs is nothing to blink at. When is the last time you have lost 30 lbs in less than a month? I seem to be a slow loser. I had lap rny on 6/20 and I have only lost about 12 lbs so far.
Depression is very common after wls. If it gets too unbearable, speak to your pcp about antidepressants for a while. I have taken them for years due to a depressive disorder, but some people may just need that little extra help for a few months. Exercise is great for depression.
As for updating your profile try this:
Go to my account on upper right hand corner and sign in. Then go to general info and update your profile where it says "comments". If you need any more help, there is a great thread on the main message board that has lots of tips for photos and stuff.
Good luck and hang in there!
Judy,
We share the same surgery date! I have lost 18 pounds so far, so 30 sounds soooo wonderful! Be proud of yourself! Try slowing down the water, or hot tea works best for me first thing in the morning. Decaf of course. Then I drink water. Do you feel like you are drownding? I do. Like I could just float away. I, too, feel down in the dumps. Let's keep going and don't give up! I am pretty much alone in this thing. Thank God, we have this site to connect to people.
I can't access my profile either, so let me know if you figure it out.

Meanwhile, hang in there girl! Do not give up! Everyone says it will get better.
