Calling all June 20th folks. Help with Protien.
Well I need some help on how to get all this protein in. I dont like the taste its so gritty. I have been eating the pudding and having lots of broth and creamed soups. Just looking for something else to try. I have to be on full liquids another week. I see Dr. on the 7th to get all the staples out man there are 25 of them. lol Then go to next step. I am close to getting all the water in so that is good. Just was wondering how everyone is doing on there journey. I feel GREAT so that is good. Have a wonderful weekend. Thanks for being here.

Yesterday was bad - like yours. I just could not get the Isopure down. All I can say is you have to keep trying. Maybe try different kinds. I also found a liquid protein at GNC which while not being what I really call "tasty" is definitely a different flavor from the protein/milk bases flavors. I add a little nutrasweet with it (it's sour) and water to dillute it. GNC also had some protein drinks that look like Koolaid so those might work for you. I've heard they are good -- but I haven't personally tried them. Yesterday, I had soup, soup, broth, jello, but only a few sips of Isopure. Today, I got half of it down which is usually all I can do. I also blended up a half of a banana in it. I don't know if that was "legal" but it was the only way it was going down and I figured, it was liquid when I drank it. It didn't cause me any distress.
My follow-up is on the 6th. I'm looking forward to more food choices!

Isopure is evil I hate the stuff ,threw it all out. I know what you mean about limited choices. My favorite thing to eat was cambells spilt pea and ham soup . I blended and strained it . It is delish and I was able to lose 20 lbs since my surgery on june 19th.
As far as protien shakes go they can be boring I started mixing mine with 5 oz of 1% milk and that is the minimal amount of liquid the directions say I can use. So this way I dont have alot to drink. I bought it at costco and I mix the vannila with the chocolate so its not to choclaty.
Hi Debbie,
I ordered a protein drink called NEW WHEY from www.bariatriceating.com although I believe that you can get it at health food stores (I am in Canada so I have to order it).
Its a vile of fruit-punch or blueberry flavored clear protein drink with 25g of protein and 0 carbs. I find I can get it in quite easily - the taste isn't wonderful but I can tollerate it.
I love these suggestions though - I too am having problems getting the protein in.
Love,
Julia
Hi Debbie,
I have the Matrix chocolate protein mix. It tastes just like chocolate milk and it mixes completely with the milk or water. You'd never know there was protein in it. Even though I really like the taste, getting in three glasses a day is difficult, two a day ok...
but three is a bit much. I'm so happy I didn't have to wait so long to get my staples out, they took them out yesterday. My tummy feels so much better, no more pulling on those staples. Keep up the sipping and we'll be half ourselves in no time.
Have a great weekend.
Hugs,
Sherry
I am on full liquids too, for 2 more weeks. There is a great protein powder that I got from GNC called American Whey. I got it in the natural/unflavored, because it is easier to add to recipies. The guys at GNC said not to heat it, so don't add it to soups, only cold drinks, plus it does have a slightly sweet flavor. I got this recipe from a friend on the boards (thanks Shannon ):
1/2 c. orange juice
1/4-1/2 c. dannon light'n fit vanilla yogurt
1/4-1/3 banana
3-4 slices frozen peach slices or any other frozen fruit you like
2-4 ice cubes
1-2 scoops of protein powder
I am only 1-week out, so once blended, I have to strain this, which isn't easy, so I am usually light on the ice to make the straining easier
It is really good, and you don't need to add any extra sweetener.
Other than that, I have been having creamed soups too (broccoli and asapragus). It'll get easier to incorporate the protein once we can broaden our diets.
Also, remember that if you buy from GNC, you can return anything you don't like with your receipt, within 30 days of purchase.

I drink an Isopure (one of the pre-mixed bottled ones) every day. My favorites are Grape, Apple-Melon & Orange. I can't stand the chocolate or vanilla drinks. The good thing is the Isopures count as water as well. One of the 20oz bottles has 40gms of protein, so it's a big leg up.
Good Luck!
