I am back home and I am hurting.......
Hi G,
I had a Lap RNY, so I don't know how long an open incision will hurt. My six tiny incisions are still a little sore, but I took pain meds (tylenol) for only one day after I got home from the hospital.
Once you get all the gas to pass, you should start to feel light years better and the bloating will go away. You have to get up and walk and move, move, move. That is how I ridded myself of the gas. Also, my period started the day after my surgery, so I feel your pain.
I'm mostly cold now. I'm not on blood thinners, but boy do I stay cold.
Wishing you all the best.
I also had lap rny on the 21st which I understand is easier on you recovery/pain-wise. I slept in the chair for five nights. Still take my lortab but only at bedtime because it's still tough to get comfortable in the bed.....but getting steadily better. It is true what they say....the more you walk the better you feel and stay hydrated which is more important than getting nutrition at this time and especially in this heat. Congratulations and best wishes to you!!!
Amy
I also had lap RNY on Monday, the 26th. I'm still in quite a bit of pain, but things are slowly getting better. I didn't like the way the pain meds made me feel, so I haven't had any since 6:00 last night. Had my first BM this morning and that was not fun! I have a JP drain and a g-tube. The g-tube is what is causing me the most pain right now.
I can't say about open - I had laproscopy so my six little cuts are nothing compared to you. Plus you had complications of the fever. Just give yourself time. I only did 2 nights with the pain meds but last night was the first time I twisted to the left to get up and it didn't hurt. Sleeping has been very uncomfortable - probably a good 5 nights. Also, once you start passing that gas and bm, things do get moving. Hang in there - it will get better. Don't forget to take your temp twice a day to make sure you don't relapse with fever. Otherwise, remember soon this too shall pass and you will be feeling so much better.
I am finding that every day gets a little better. My gas pain lasted for 4-5 days but I did not take pain meds after the 2 days in the hospital.
It sounds like your allergic reaction and the fever is not helping anything! I am so sorry to hear this!
Just keep smiling - it will get better soon!!!
Love,
Julia
I had surgery the same day as you, G. I too had a fever but they let me go home Wednesday night because it came down under 99 degrees. I started my period the very next day and Friday I hated everything and everyone. I know what you mean about sweating and chills. My room was comfortable but I perspired the whole time I was there. I couldn't wait to get home and take a shower.
As for getting out of bed, if you do your best to roll to your side first and sit up sideways, it'll will hurt less.
I hope you're feeling better,
Kim
