Hi everyone, I had surgery on Thursday June 22 . On Sunday I developed severe lower back pain on the right side, near my hip. Anyone else have this problem? The pain medicine doesn't help at all. The tummy discomfort is nothing compared to the lower back pain. Thanks in advance for your advice. Rachel

I had lower back pain from having to sleep on my back... do you think this could be what's causing your pain?

Rachel, I had surgery the same day... Congrats! You may want to make sure you are getting enough water. My wife had a problem with back pain and it cleared up after drinking water. I'm drinking between 64 and 96 oz of water, plus about 12 oz of juice and 12 oz of gatotade each day to keep my fluids up. Rachel, I would call your surgeon. That's what they are getting the big bucks for! Seriously, in my paperwork it states that if I have pain and it isn't controlled with my pain meds, it's time to call. Good Luck! Robin

I thought about it being caused by laying around on my back, or that the back muscles are compensating for my weakened abdominal muscles. I am definitely drinking enough water, that's for sure. I will leave a message from the surgeon since my follow up isn't until Thursday.

Hi Rachel, is it any better today? What did your surgeon say? I hope things are getting better for you, and that you were right, it was just a case of overcompensation on the part of your back. Let us know, k?? And (((HUGS))) Tin k

I tried sleeping on my side more, and it seems to be helping. Now if I could just eat some real food.

Rachel, I also have had the severe back pain on the right side, and it radiates around to the front as well. I have no real explanation, except to say that it lessens each day. My surgery was on the 9th, and my back seems to be out of place. A friend said that it is a combination of pulled muscles and a disc displaced from lying on a tiny operating table? Don't know if that is the case. Let me know what your surgeon says. Sher Lo
