I had a VG and also had to have a very large hernia repaired as well as a biopsy of my liver. My recovery seems very slow and I'm wondering if it's because of the "extras" I've had done. In the hospital the gave the the ol' morphine button and said to push that thing whenever I had pain...well, I did just that. However, I think it just made me feel worse and even delayed my recovery a bit. Also, I know we're all different but does the weight loss ususally start to happen at 2 weeks? I havent lost any yet at 5 days out. I'm really anxious to start loozin! thanks, Steph

Stephanie, I'm sure you're extras have a lot to do with your rate of recovery and weight loss. Just focus on following doctor's orders and taking it easy. You have a lot of healing to do... the weightloss is inevitable. Congrats on being home and a successful surgery!

Yes, it is the extra's! I got to use my pump 1.5 days. Then I got Lortab. Today, I took my pain catheter out. Now I hurt! Also, I got a case of Bronchitis while at the hospital. I am so envious of people that are out and about! I thought I did good by showering, dressing, and going outside for 240 seconds! LOL I also am on clears until my 7th day, then I am on full liquids for a week, then mushies. I am so envious of people that get to have more substantial nutrition. Well you are doing great! Just hang in there!! Oh, I haven't lost ANY yet!! Robin

I was banded last Thursday - I refuse to go on the scale (I don't own one****il I go for my 2 week post op. I don't want that extra pressure on myself right now. I am working on getting all of my fluids in ( not easy ) and heal up. I feel good and plan to return to work tomorrow. I think you should give yourself a break - the loosing will start without putting pressure on yourself. Good luck to you. Beth

Steph: I am sure the extras are keeping your recovery at a slower pace. The surgery alone is a lot to put our bodies through, add to that addition repairs and well...add additional time recovering. No worries, take you pain medication as perscribed and keep ahead of the pain...it's much easier than trying to play 'catch-up' with it. As to weightloss after. Well, that varies depending on the amount of fluids your Surgeon had pumped into you, the amount of gas pumped into you and a variety of other things. I actually gained 10#'s from the surgery itself. It takes about a week or two to lose those fluids and gasses. I was told not to get on a scale until my two week appt...as you can see...I didn't listen!! LOL!! Don't worry, you are losing, you just can't always see it on the scale. You will soon enough...just rest up, concentrate on fluids and getting better..the rest will come in time!!

I just wanted to pipe in and say hi. I would bet your extras are taking more of a toll. Be patient - it sounds to me like you are doing pretty good (and I made pretty good use of that morphine pump at the hospital -- just because I was so dang bored as well as in pain. I just wanted to go to sleep.)

I agree with the above posters and don't have anything to add, but wanted to say congrats on your surgery, welcome home and happy re-birth to you!
