How much are you eating?
Hello June Babes!
I was wondering how much and what you post-ops are eating? I had my 1 week appt. today. And Dear Doc said everything was a-okay(20lbs gone since pre-op appt and I feel great.
I still don't feel "hungry" but I am eating anyway because I promised my dietitian no more meal skipping.. I eat 2-3 oz of food for b'fast lunch and dinner and 1-2 oz for a snack a few hours before bed. I am using empty Jell-o cups and 1oz medicine cups to measure. I can tell when I swallow too much at once, but I'm not to sure what the "full" feeling feels like. I am afraid to eat too much because i don't want to bust anything. I am getting in 55-60oz of fluids with my goal being 65. I started drinking Gatorade and Crystal light...but I prefer water now.
My menu contains various daily combos of cottage cheese, mashed potatoes, mixed veggies, protein shakes, eggs, yogurt, tuna, and applesauce so far.
Can't wait to hear back!

Since I have only been on pureed foods for 3 days (moved from liquids on Monday), I haven't quite gotten a system down pat yet. The first day, I felt hungry. Yesterday I didn't want to eat at all...and today, well, it's just beginnng!
I can usually eat about 1/4 cup or a tiny bit over (of refried beans, cottage cheese or protein pudding). With protein shakes I can usually drink about 6 oz. Last night I was trying to get in the calories and protein with a shake and I drank about 8 oz (in 20-30 mins) and that was toooo much! Although I did not throw up, I was extremely nauseous for about 20 mins. It was a miserable feeling.
Sounds like you are doing great!
Keep up the good work!

I usually have 3 meals and 3 snacks a day. My menu goes something like this:
Breakfast:
1/4 c low fat cottage cheese
Mid Morning Snack:
sf popsickle
Lunch:
1/2c mashed pototoes
Afternoon Snack:
sf chocolate pudding w/ sf whipped cream (mmm!)
Dinner:
1 piece of ravioli
2 tbsp cottage cheese
7:00 snack:
sf yogurt/popsickle/pudding
I sip water all day. I was drinking a lot of Propel vitamin water but I'm like you, I'm beginning to prefer plain water over flavored water.
I've lost 19 lbs since last Wednesday! Everyone seems to be doing well. Congrats!!
20 pounds is Great! My weight loss was 15 pounds. It is interesting how surgeons differ on their menus. I will not start soft foods as you mention until week 3 which is fine since I do not feel a hunger sensation. Currently, my meal selections are as follows: Breakfast: Carnation Instant Breakfast, Lunch/Dinner: Chicken broth and snack: Jello and popsicles. Loving every minute of it.
I got my staples and drain out yesterday and now I feel 100% better. Now, I can totally focus on getting my proteins, vitamins and liquids down.
See ya!
It is interesting how different surgeons use different diets. I had surgery on June 9, 2006, and today is my last day on pureed foods. Right now, I have only blended foods: 1.5 ounces of protein and 1 ounce of fruit or vegetable per meal. Three meals a day, plus 1 yogurt (6 ounce); and 1 glass of 1%milk (8 ounces with protein powder added.)
We are not allowed to drink any fluids until 1 hour after eating. How about you guys?

I am 21 days out and on stage 3.. It seems that there are some differences between surgeons so here is my menu for the past day
Breakfast: ground turkey lettuce tomato, avocado and low fat cheese (about 5 oz)
Lunch Ground turkey with tomato sauce steamed zukenie (about 3 oz)
After Noon snack Cantaloupe smoothie with yogurt ( 6.oz)
Dinner Hamburger patty and cottage cheese. (about 4.5 oz)
I eat about the same thing every day because it is what I have found to sit well on my tummy.. My Dr does not allow carbs for 6 months and certain foods are a no no till 6 months out.
These diets really are different. I am on more of a soft food stage 3 diet than pureed. Scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, mashed potatoes, canned veggies, yogurt and tuna is what I've been eating a lot of. No lettuce till 6weeks or stage 4 not ground meats till stage 4 unless it's baby food meat. no more than 16 carbs a meal and of course no sugar.
