??? about liquid diet!
I noticed that on many of the posts people are talking about a 2 week liquid diet. I have only been on a liquid diet since this morning and my surgery is Tuesday! Has anyone else had these instructions? I have been on "Soups, Salads, and Sandwiches" since thursday and then sunday and monday is liquids and protein shakes. I was just wondering. Thanks
My surgeon wanted me to try to lose some pounds before surgery and suggested that I try a modified liquid diet. I started trying two weeks before surgery and it was off and on. I did find myself eliminating high calorie/sugar/fat choices, however...the only true requirement of my surgeon was a liquid only diet for the two days prior to surgery along with the bowel prep...yippee...been loads of fun....
Good luck and great wishes to all of us...

I am on Optifast for two weeks and nothing else besides clear liquids like crystal light, tea and coffee. I have discovered adding less than a quarter cup of brewed coffee to the shakes improves the taste immensely. The chocolate becomes cafe mocha and vanilla is a latte. It's the only way I am staying sane. One week left and I can't wait. This was something new that my surgeon started. I had already been given a low fat, low carb, high protein diet to follow from the dietician, but things changed.
Good luck on your surgery!

I had to do 5 days of clears with one protein drink allowed the first three days. Today is bowel prep day so today and tomorrow are strictly clear, sugar free liquids. Surgery is Wednesday morning. All the surgeons are different and their goal for each patient can also be very individual. In my case, the hope is to shrink the liver some and having mostly all clear liquid prior to the bowel prep makes it a little less uncomfortable I think. Not so much like Montezuma's revenge. That stuff (Fleets Phosphorosoda) is like drain-o. Not 30 seconds passed and I was !!!

My doctor requires clear liquid diet for two days, no bowel prep (which judging from the other posts, is a good thing!). I almost took a bite of my daughter's peanut butter & jelly sandwich today. She was done and it's like my arm had a mind of it's own, automatically reaching over for it. I caught it about one inch from my mouth. Those days are over!!!
