home and feeling great!
Hello all! I came home on June 9th and everyday I am feeling stronger and stronger. I feel just twinges of pain every once in a while. I am taking vicadin for pain at bedtime, though just in case. I am on the full liquid diet now, but I am a little confused on meals. I was told to eat a meal and then a snack so I am eating 6 times a day. I was also told to eat broth, cottage cheese, jello, yogurt etc. Isn't that the same as eating and drinking??? How much jello and cottage cheese is a serving? I'm not hungry at all when I eat and I feel the same when I am done.
Hi Kimberly,
I had my surgery on June 8th and home on June 9th. I am on mechinical soft diet right now. I had a lap band. I lost 5lbs on my follow-up visit 6 days after surgery. My steri-strips are off and my incisions look good. I am having trouble getting all of my fluids in. With the restriction of no drinking 30 min before you eat and not drinking an hour after you eat- there is not much time left. I have to start walking everyday and in 5 weeks I have to have a definate exercise program set up to report to the MD.
My husband hid the scales so I cant jump on them to see what I am losing. I was jumping on it several times a day and I was getting upset with the numbers. So he hid them. Oh well
Good luck to you. what type of surgery did you have? take care donna
Kimberly,
I had my surgery June 12 but didn't get home from the hospital until June 17 due to some complications. I feel pretty good most of the time. The only time I took pain meds yesterday was at night due to uncomfortable sleeping. I am on full liquids for next two weeks also. As far as what you can eat and how much I think every surgeon differs a little on that. I was told not to try cottage cheese for two weeks. I can eat the rest of the items you mentioned. I think one-two ounces of jello and yogurt are a serving. Yesterday I ate mashed potatoes (1 ice cream scoop) with creamy chicken soup (2 ounces) on top and it was so yummy. I kinda panicked half way through thinking about what kind of liquid was used because I got the potatoes from KFC. I'm not suppose to have milk for two weeks. It didn't upset my stomach at all and I was quit full before I could finish. I have to work on my protien supplements today and also all my meds - yuck. I think this is the hardest part. Eating crushed meds!

My surgeon said that my new pouch can hold 2 to 4 oz of food or around 1/4 cup for now. That's what I'm eating. The only "real" food I've had since I got back from the hospital yesterday is about a tablespoon of cottage cheese and around 5pm today I had 1/4 c of mashed potatoes w/ no problem. Also today I've had 1 sugar free popsicle, 1/4c sf jello and 1/4c SF chocolate pudding. I've been sipping on Propel w/ ice chips all day so that I don't get dehydrated. I'm also a little cofused though about the feeling of not being hungry and feeling the same when I'm done. I wonder if we're eating enough. Also, my boyfriend went to the store today for me and couldn't find SF yogurt I was so looking forward to that! I'm pretty sore though but each day gets better. I'll be glad when I'm back to normal!
I got home Saturday Afternoon from my Thursday Surgury!
My doctors directive is 3 weeks of liquids and soupy things such as soupy mashed potatoes, soupy oatmeal, puddings and jello.
A meal is 4 oz of stuff. I will be able to progress to cottage cheese and pureed foods during the 3 to 6 week period, but still only 4 oz at a time.
I was also told to take 1/2 hour to 45 minutes for my meals, no liquids with the meals, and to wait 1/2 hour before going on my liquids again! Its all meant to keep from pushing the pouch above the 4 oz limit and causing discomfort!
I agree with you regarding the lack of hunger at this time, its all sort of mechanical! (except I was a little thirsty when I woke up from sleep last night).
Last night was my first full night of sleep! Gosh was that a pleasure!!
